Georgia O'Keeffe Painting Sets a New Record for Female Artists
You may known 20th century artist Georgia O'Keeffe as the woman who painted numerous flower studies in her time. However, as of this week, she is also the holder of a new auction record for the most expensive work of art by a woman. The painting pictured, entitled "Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1", was purchased for $44.4 million at a Sotheby’s auction, nearly tripling what the house projected it would sell for. It is also a staggering four times higher than the previous title holder, an untitled painting by Joan Mitchell that sold for $11.9 million. Georgia O'Keeffe was a pioneer of females in the arts, and it is completely exciting to see her continue to be a major trailblazer nearly 30 years after her death.

@sophiamor Granted it's not the hundreds of thousands of dollars famous male artists are making for their work, but I'm hoping this is the beginning of a wonderful trend!
