It's official - Katy Perry will be headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show this season! She has already released a funny and very intriguing, magical video with Pepsi teasing her perfomance (attached here). Will there be edible glitter? Unicorns? A pegasus? Drum-playing robots? Kittens? Whatever it is, it will surely have some sass and glamour! Bob Costas made the announcement during the Cowboys-Giants Sunday Night Football game. The Super Bowl will take place February 1 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona and be broadcast on NBC. The pop singer, known for hits such as "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework" and others, is getting this new honor right on the heels of scoring big at the American Music Awards. There she won three awards, including Single of the Year for No. 1 hit "Dark Horse," Favorite Female Artist: Pop/Rock and Favorite Artist: Adult Contemporary. The NFL is now definitely showing that it's ready to feature more contemporary artists and has gotten over its trauma over Janet Jackson's infamous "wardrobe malfunction," after which officials opted for very safe, "retro" and decidedly male acts for a while. You can see their trajectory back into the hit contemporary artist bracket by looking at the performances after Janet Jackson: 2005: Paul McCartney 2006: The Rolling Stones 2007: Prince 2008: Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 2009: Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band 2010: The Who 2011: The Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Slash 2012: Madonna, LMFAO, Cirque du Soleil, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., Cee Lo Green, Andy Lewis 2013: Beyoncé, Destiny's Child 2014: Bruno Mars, Red Hot Chili Peppers 2015: Katy Perry! Even though her music isn't what I listen to on a day-to-day basis, I'm already excited and intrigued about what she will bring to the spectacle. She does know how to put on a show!
A thousand kittens? I'm in!
Superbowl shows are always fun so I'm sure she's going to have something really crazy going on - I hope its edible glitter!
Has Katy Perry been famous long enough? Woowww.
Should be a good show. I remember after the super bowl last year the NFL was thinking about making artists pay to perform at the super bowl since it gives you so much publicity but I guess they've delayed on that. I doubt Katy Perry has to pay anyone to perform
