No Indictment For Ferguson Officer
Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson will not face charges for fatally shooting the unarmed black teenager in the controversial case that set off violent protests and racial unrest throughout the United States since August 9th. After the announcement was made crowds of protesters filled the streets. Stores were looted, cars and businesses set on fire, and bricks were hurled at police. When the police said they were fired upon they responded with smoke bombs, pepper spray, and tear gas. In Washington, President Obama appeared before TV cameras. "We need to accept that this decision was the grand jury's to make,'' he said in calling for peaceful protests. But Obama said the Ferguson case "speaks to broader challenges that we still face as a nation.'' Brown's family later released a statement saying, "We are profoundly disappointed that the killer of our child will not face the consequence of his actions.'' They urged others who share their pain to "channel your frustration in ways that will make a positive change.'' I think the Brown's family makes a good point, one that I've tried to repeat over and over. Going out in the street setting fires isn't going to solve anything. Calm down and peacefully protests, more violence won't solve anything!
