I was trying to think of ideas for a romantic dinner today - so I started searching around. Then I thought, why don't I share my findings with my fellow Vinglers in a collection? So here it is...the first installment of "Recipes for Love." I made this collection especially for my new friends out there in the Love & Relationships because I really think sharing meals together, especially romantic ones that only involve the two of you, can have a big role in bringing you closer together over delicious tastes and great conversation. It's even better if you can make it together, but sometimes it's a nice gesture to make things for each other. Also, as many people know, sometimes ingredients and dishes are even credited with leading to some spicier things for dessert! (hint hint)
Today I would like to start by sharing a Jamie Oliver recipe for Quick Individual Strawberry & Vanilla Trifles that looks relatively simple and delicious, as well as romantic.
2 handfuls of strawberries, as well as some extra to decorate
1 tablespoon vanilla sugar or caster sugar
1/2 c. double cream
1/2 c. fat-free natural yogurt
1 vanilla pod, split
8 little rum babas or madeleines soaked in Limoncello
14 oz thick custard
Fresh mint leaves, to decorate
1. De-stalk your strawberries and place them in a pan with the sugar. Heat gently until the strawberries stew down slightly and some of their juices come out.
2. Lightly whip the cream with the seeds from the vanilla pod, and then stir in the yogurt.
3. Divide the rum babas or madeleines between 4 dessert glasses and spoon the strawberries, cream and custard in layers on top.
4. Decorate with halved strawberries and mint leaves, then serve.
