Release Date: April 10, 2015 Genre: Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller Stars: Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander Plot: Caleb Smith (Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company's brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Isaac). Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test - charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan's latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated--and more deceptive--than the two men could have imagined.
@sanityscout I don't know, it does seem a pretty classical movie of that type, but I think it might depend on how it is eddited and showed, because only then can you know the full quality of the movie overall. So I think I'll have to wait and see the movie to know if it has more than just the classic plot.
It sounds like a pretty classic AI being excessively human storyline, with a horror/action element. I'm not sure it looks like it has the emotional depth or nuance as Her, for example. What do you think, @ugsi? Have you noticed any stand-out things about it that could make it rise above the usual AI goes haywire plot?
