From baking to arts and crafts, this season is all about using spices! Here are five of my favorite and their amazing health benefits! Cinnamon - This tasty spice is found in nearly every baked good in the winter season. It not only speeds up your metabolism for calorie burn, but it also acts as an anti inflammatory. This eases aches and pains that come so easily during the cold months. Cloves - Other than giving off an incredible smell that will have your entire house feeling fresh, they can get rid of bad breath and are very good source of vitamin K, dietary fiber, iron, magnesium, and calcium! Nutmeg - Potassium, calcium, iron and manganese are among key minerals found in nutmeg, but it is also a great sleep-aide! With so many problems with stress around the holidays related to lack of sleep, nutmeg is a great way to naturally feel more tired. Try having a glass of milk with a pinch of nutmeg next time you can't fall asleep. Ginger - Ginger reduces all symptoms associated with motion sickness including dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and cold sweating. Sage - Not only is sage filled with good oils and potassium, it is also a known memory enhancer. Like cinnamon, it is an anti inflammatory as well, so this is an excellent herb for anyone suffering from arthritis.
