13 Google Search Tricks
1. Use quotes to search for an exact phrase. This is useful when you want to weed out links that you don't need! 2. Use an asterisk within quotes to specify unknown or variable words. This is good when you can't remember quotes or song lyrics. Example: * is thicker than water 3. Use the minus sign to eliminate results containing certain words. Example: jaguar -car (when you search just jaguar you get the car in the results, doing this will omit any search results of the car) 4. Search websites for keywords. Example: Google site:TIME.com As long as you use "site:" you should get search results of only that website domain! 5. Search news archives going back to the mid-1880s. You can search here: http://news.google.com/newspapers 6. Compare foods using “vs.” This is actually really handy! Check out an example in the second image that is attached. 7. Filter search results for recipes. Search for a dish, then go to search tools and you will see options to filter your results by calories, cook time, etc. (see image 3) 8. Use “DEFINE:” to learn the meaning of words—slang included. I use this one so much, It's really useful. 9. Tilt your screen by searching “tilt.” Type "tilt" into search with no quotes and you'll see what happens! 10. Play Atari Breakout by searching it on Google Images. search “Atari Breakout” (without quotes) on Google Images and enjoy the legendary brick breaker game. 11. Search images using images. This is also super useful! If you go to google image search (https://images.google.com) you'll notice that there is a camera icon that you can select in order to upload a picture or paste a url so you can search images using that image. 12. Press the mic icon on Google’s search bar, and say “flip a coin” or “heads or tails.” and Google will flip a coin for you. (Good on mobile phones) 13. Press the mic icon on Google’s search bar, and say “give me a love quote” or “I love you.” (via TIME http://time.com/3581399/google-search/)
