This photograph by Daniel Beltrá, which won in 2011, shows a group of brown pelicans that are victims of the BP Deepwater well, which you know blew up in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010. They are in the heart of a serious disaster.
This wasn't the only photo that Beltra shared of the spill: he took many photos from a plane, showing the attempt to clean up the oil,and just how much it was failing. I've attached a few of those striking photos here as well.
Often aimed at creating photography that will bring attention to conservation efforts, he also had a book having to do with preserving rainforests that was released in 2011, and gained a lot of popularity. You can see some of his works about rainforests on this care as well.
