In 2015 I am going to make day mine each morning! Normally I have no problem waking up early in the summer with the help of an early sunrise, but in winter it is nearly impossible for me to get out of bed even though I love a good a.m. yoga session. Here are a few steps to train yourself to be a morning person!
1. Get More Sleep
Sort of obvious, but your body is not going to be happy about waking up if you haven't had enough sleep. Forcing your body awake at 6am when you went to bed at 2am isn't going to do you any good!
2. No screens in your bedroom!
I am notorious for constantly checking my phone at all hours of the night so my sleep is never as deep as it could or should be. Get rid of that TV, laptop, and cell phone at least an hour before bed.
3. Have a night time routine
Lay out your clothes ahead of time, wash your face, brush your teeth, read a few chapters of a book, etc. Get your body used to a routine that will wind you down and get your body and mind ready for a good, deep sleep. You also won't be restless thinking about what you need to do in the morning when you wake up if you've already taken care of it the night before!
4. Stop pressing snooze
Maybe the reason you keep hitting snooze is because your body isn't ready to get up quite yet. Waking up when you're still groggy leaves you cranky and irritable all morning! With apps like Sleep Time, you can set an alarm and it will pick up on your frequency waves of sleep and only sound a (calming) alarm when it knows you are no longer in a the deep stage of a REM cycle.
5. Work out in the morning!
It gets your blood pumping and you'll be ready to go for the rest of the day. Check out my collection on morning workouts here: http://www.vingle.net/collections/545752
6. Expose yourself to natural light
It helps your biological clock and has even been linked to reducing symptoms of depression by regulating your body's chemicals!
