Another great list, of great books, loved by great minds! As BrainPickings points out, there have been SO many book lists publicized that come from great male writers of the past, but far fewer lists of books by great females! As a great writer with wonderful reflections on self-respect and grief, Joan Didion definitely fits the bill for a fantastic female writer, who's all time favorite book list we can now enjoy! Since Didion was an avid writer, she kept a list of hers in her notebook. See the list itself (image 2) and here's it written out again, since I'll be honest and say I needed the article to translate the titles for me! (I've never been one for reading hand-writing of her style...) @hikaymm Don't miss these for your reading lists! Here's the list: -A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway -Victory by Joseph Conrad -Guerrillas by V.S. Naipaul -Down and out in Paris and London by George Orwell -Wonderland by Joyce Carol Oates -Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë -The Good Soldier by Ford Madox FOrd -One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Márquez -Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky -Appointment in Samarra by John O’Hara -The Executioner’s Song by Norman Mailer -The Novels of Henry James (Washington Square, Portrait of a Lady, The Bostonians, Wings of the Dove, The Ambassadors, The Golden Bowl, Daisy Miller, The Aspern Papers, The Turn of the Screw) Speedboat by Renata Adler -Go Tell It on the Mountain by James Baldwin -Notes of a Native Son by James Baldwin -The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood -Collected Poems by Robert Lowell -Collected Poems by W.H. Auden -The Collected Poems by Wallace Stevens
@hikaymm No problem!
It's unsettling being in the character Raskolnikov's mind and enjoyable at the same time! @hikaym
