[Poll] Where will Guardiola end up?
It's one of the burning questions in the football world these days: Where will Pep Guardiola coach next season? I'd love for us as a Vingle community to take a stab at it. We know that Guardiola will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season (and Carlo Ancelotti has already been named his successor), but there is not yet any indication of where Guardiola will be next year. Lots of speculation, no certainty. Here are some of the possibilities. Manchester United Louis van Gaal will be lucky to last to the end of this season at the rate things are going right now. I wrote last week about the possibility that Mourinho could move in and take van Gaal's position before the end of the season, but assuming there is a vacancy at the end of the year, United could be a very attractive option for Guardiola. He loves the big clubs, and United have the biggest market of any club in Europe. It could be a great match. Manchester City Perhaps Guardiola will prefer Manchester's blue half. City are a club with bags and bags of money and that will be an extremely attractive aspect of the club for Guardiola, who will no doubt want to make some transfers wherever he goes to make his own mark on the team. Current manager Manuel Pellegrini is struggling this season, and the consensus seems to be that if he fails to win the Champions League this year, his time at City will be up. Guardiola would be the perfect replacement for the ever-ambitious City. Chelsea Chelsea just appointed Guus Hiddink their interim manager after firing Jose Mourinho, but I don't see Hiddink staying past this season. He derailed the Dutch national team and is a huge part of the reason they failed to qualify for the Euros and I don't think he'll do enough in his few months at Chelsea to turn the team around and convince the board that he's the man for the job. So, there could well be a vacancy in London come the end of the season. Guardiola is a great option for any club, but it makes tons of sense for him to take over Chelsea. They've got lots of money, but an old squad that needs to be retooled, and Guardiola coudl be just the man for them. My money is on Manchester City to be the landing place for Guardiola. I think he's going to be highly coveted, but City will be able to offer him more money than any other team and I think he's going to drool at the chance to take a team from aspiring world forces to the best team in the whole world, as he has done in the past with Barcelona and currently Bayern Munich. What do you think? Could Pep end up outside of England? It's possible, but I bet he's in the Prem next season. Where do you think he'll be? @InPlainSight @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @MarcusJiles @DerekGumtow @havic @yaakattackk @bnzatton @SherzTYCi @krishntejanand @addri @mishthi @andwas @NimishMathur @Sydsocquet @starli @kyleatekwana @BenjiPhilip @Eduardo14 @AshfakEjaaz @EmanueleYagoda
Uruguay v England: Rooney to prove his worth in favoured role
England simply must beat Uruguay to keep qualification in their own hands and while Three Lions fans’ nerves are jangling history suggests Roy’s boys should do the business against the South Americans. Being a European nation England play an admittedly limited amount of football against South American opponents but a look back at the last 20 games shows that we have rarely struggled against the likes of Uruguay. drow last names In the last 20 games against sides from South America England have lost just three, drawn five and won 12 times including against Brazil, Argentina and indeed Uruguay. True, most of these games have been of the friendly variety but England’s World Cup record against South Americans also provides encouraging reading with three wins, one draw and just one defeat – to Brazil. So with the stats suggesting reasons to be confident here are three solid bets for the crunch game. Wayne Rooney to score first @ 6/1 Wazza’s form has been the source of much debate and having never scored a goal at a World Cup finals this one is a bit of a Gut Truster pick. However, the Manchester United man is England’s all-time leading World Cup goal scorer when qualification games are included and after being restored to his favoured central position has never had a better opportunity to shine. We’re backing Wayne to fire us to glory and at 6/1 to open the scoring you should too! Over 2.5 goals to be scored @ 21/20 England will concede, they always do, so any win is likely to need at least two goals from the Three Lions, especially with Luis Suarez likely to be restored to Uruguay’s starting XI. Games involving England and South American rivals are often high-scoring affairs with 20 goals recorded in the last six meetings and an average of 2.85 over the last 20 games. England to win 2-1 @ 9/1 Just six of the last 20 games where England have played a team from South America have seen any side record a victory by more than one goal. So, if you’re backing Uruguay to score – and you should be as they’ve netted in 19 of their last 19 fixtures – then 2-1 looks the most likely result if England are to win, making 9/1 simply too good to turn down. The slow death of the fan forum
Way back before the web turned into the behemoth it presently is, football fanzines were the objective for fan remark and conversation. Back during the 1990s, Football Forums started to succeed and develop, with very much run autonomous locales viably supplanting fanzines in the mind of football fans hoping to impart their insights and talk about their clubs with their kindred fans. Yet, a look at fan discussions nowadays (and the fan forums for my own club, Gillingham FC, specifically) recommends things are particularly on the wind down. The football gathering is gradually vanishing, and it’s bit by bit being supplanted by web-based media. Before we shut it down last year the Gills365 Forum was performing unequivocally contrasted with different Gills forums out there, yet it was as yet in consistent decay contrasted with past seasons as far as the volume, profundity and level of conversation. Taking a gander at different discussions apparently to be a comparative story, with just a modest bunch of clients — and sometimes only a few — giving the main part of the movement on the loads up. Also, the actual club shut down their discussions subsequent to letting what was before a flourishing local area separate and vanish through an absence of consideration. 10 years prior certain Gills discussions would handily pull in more than 200–300 posts each week. A little while these days you could separate that number by 10. The justification for this can be found in the manner individuals utilize the web to impart nowadays. Forums may have been the go-to places for all football visits and discussion, thinking back to the 1990s and mid 2000s, however we now live in the realm of web-based media, and the conversation has moved to organizations like Facebook and Twitter. Facebook bunches permit a comparable assemblage of fans on an objective page, however with an all around perceived stage and without the requirement for any kind of specialized nous. Setting up a gathering page is simple, and on the off chance that you can get individuals you need onto it routinely, you’ll have a hive of conversation and action in two or three weeks. Then, at that point there’s Twitter. It’s my online media outlet of decision, and is significantly more prompt and live than Facebook. Twitter dominates during live occasions, as fans can in a flash share their interpretation of occasions, as they occur, and continuously. It’s something we exploited effectively on Gills365, which was the principal Gills outlet anyplace to accept online media. Our #gills365 hashtag demonstrated tremendously well known during matches specifically, with fans at the ground tweeting their updates adding #gills365 to their tweets to allow ousted allies to finish the activity with a totaled feed of the multitude of inhabitant fans’ updates. All the more as of late fans have begun making their own networks on Facebook, and there are several very much upheld conversation bunches on Facebook where individuals can impart their perspectives to individual fans. The two stages have a lot to bring to the table. Facebook offers all the more a local area building angle, though Twitter is considerably more ‘at the time’. The development in prominence of both has implied football fans have floated towards them, as opposed to fan gatherings, for their football conversations. Twitter permits fans the chance to peruse and react straightforwardly to writers, media sources and even players themselves, and has given an additional measurement to the game as those columnists and players who decide to do so assist with narrowing the hole between the expert game and its fans. With Facebook offering suitable, free, options in contrast to gatherings, and Twitter offering the capacity to remark and impart insights live and continuously, the time of the fan discussion would seem to have passed.
Meet AC Milan's 16-year old goalkeeper
Gianluigi Bonnarumma is 16 years old. And he's the starting goalkeeper for AC Milan. No, seriously. The Italian took over for accomplished veteran Diego Lopez -- yes, that Diego Lopez, the one who played for Real Madrid -- and has taken AC Milan's starting job and run with it. He hasn't looked back since making his first start in October. Despite his crazy young age, Donnarumma has been praised by scouts and players alike for his huge frame and amazing reactions. He has already made some crazy saves and is saving points for AC Milan match after match with his acrobatic style. While it's certainly early in the career of the 16-year old, comparisons to Italian great Gianluigi Buffon are abound. Buffon has been the goalkeeper for Italy's national team for years and years, but at 40 years old it looks like his career is coming to an end (even though he is still playing at a very high level). Italians have something to look forward to, though, as it seems they have another keeper ready to fill Buffon's shoes for the next TWO DECADES. The amount of security a 16-year old superstar can afford a team is just crazy. If AC Milan play their cards right, they could have a top class keeper for the next twenty years. Done. Locked up. So, my question for you, football fans, is: What were you doing at age 16? @InPlainSight @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @MarcusJiles @DerekGumtow @havic @yaakattackk @bnzatton @SherzTYCi @krishntejanand @addri @mishthi @andwas @NimishMathur @Sydsocquet @starli @kyleatekwana @BenjiPhilip @Eduardo14 @AshfakEjaaz @EmanueleYagoda
