Antelope Canyon, one of the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest, and with reason.
Located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona, this breath-taking canyon slot was formed thanks to erosion from flash flooding and wind.
Flooding is still a problem, even in the deserts of Arizona. In October 30, 2006 a flood lasted 36 hours, and caused the Tribal Park Authorities to close Lower Antelope Canyon for five months!
The road to Antelope Canyon is gated by the Navajo Nation and entry is restricted to guided tours led by authorized tour guides. Tours can be purchased in nearby Page, and range from $35 to $82 per person, depending on the time of the day and length of the tour.
Pricey, but definitely a must-visit for nature photographers!
