Beech Wood Bike by Thonet and Andy Martin
“Bentwood” furniture brand Thonet teamed up with London-based architect and designer Andy Martin to create a sleek, ergonomic fixed gear bike. Made out of bent beechwood, the bike comes with carbon-fiber wheels and has “sprung rod supports to reinforce joints and major stress areas in the frame.” Bent beechwood is made through steaming the wood, a technique which has been used by Thonet since 1830. As with most fixed gear bikes, or “fixies,” it comes without brakes. So for those bent beechwood cyclist, remember to go slow on the road...
