Hot, Mulled Pear Cider!
Rather than warming up with an apple cider, try a pear spiced cider! You'll be surprised at how good it can be, and wonder why you haven't been trying pear cider all along. Don't just drink it straight out of the bottle, though: improve it with more spices and some vanilla bean. Oh, and don't forget, alcohol can and should be added for those drinkers of age! ----------------------------------------------------------------- Recipe from Chow.com Ingredients 4 (22-ounce) bottles hard pear cider (look for one that has a distinct pear flavor and isn’t too sweet.) Zest of 1 medium orange, removed in large strips 1 (3-inch) piece ginger, sliced into 1/4-inch-thick pieces 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise, seeds scraped, seeds and pod reserved (optional) 1/2 cup brandy 1/2 cup honey 1. Place the cider, orange zest, ginger, and vanilla seeds and pod (if using) in a large pot, stir to combine, and bring to a simmer over high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and let steep for 20 minutes. You can refrigerate after this step and finish the rest of the steps later, if you want to prepare ahead of time. 2. Stir in the brandy and honey, pour into heatproof mugs, and serve.
