Yellowstone to get Wifi Service....Thoughts?
This isn't exactly new information, but it's just caught my eye: Yellowstone and Grand Teton are in talks to possibly get a new fiber optic network that would spread cell and WiFi service throughout the parks. Canada is doing something similar in many of their national parks. The reason seems to be to A) make it more comfortable for visitors that aren't exactly outdoorspeople and B) to help save costs by digitizing a lot of things that currently have to be printed and distributed. For me, I think it's ok. While I'm against building new roads in parks, and I hope that these lines won't obstruct the look of it all (they should be underground, right?), I think this will bring more people out to wilderness, and there's nothing wrong with that. Our future is more and more connectivity, so we should find ways to blend it with nature, not have to choose one or the other. Even if you don't want to use it, doesn't mean other people won't want to. Do you think this is unnecessary, or pretty cool?

@TrevorGoldley Agreed. Obviously, it's useful, but still feels wrong to spend so much on it. There are so many other things that money could go towards....

@happyrock Exactly. I'm not saying there shouldn't be wifi but aren't there other things that need attention first?

My thoughts? Totally unncessary.

@treedweller I disagree. I mean, to some extent there are people who might want (or need, in emergencies) this service. Until roaming Wifi and Data becomes more accessible this is a solid solution, but I do think it's too pricey for what it is.

Personally, I'm all for it :) Most of my GPS tech would work so much better that way, and I'd feel more comfortable. Just because you can connect doesn't mean you would have to!
