A Guide to Using a Map and Compass
As we become more and more reliant on our phones, GPSs and other gadgets that we bring outdoors with us, I can't help but feel like there are many people who have forgotten an important art: how to read a map and compass! I must admit that I also haven't used a real topography map in a long time. I've used road maps and really basic trail maps, but I have forgotten about how important is to know how to read a topo map and use a compass, should the need arise! And so, I went looking for a guide. This is probably the best guide I've read about the topic: it's helpful content and the tone is helpful & considerate. It's so good that I'm going to tell you to go read that guide, and don't bother trying to listen to me explain how to do it! To follow the guide, go here: http://indefinitelywild.gizmodo.com/how-to-use-a-map-and-compass-1680534317 To get your topo map, go here: http://caltopo.com/map.html#ll=36.41121,-114.28623&z=7&b=t
Awesome fine! Thanks for sharing. I didn't even consider that I haven't used a map or compass together since I was much, much younger.....I need to refresh.
