Emre Can committed what can only be called a sloppy defensive maneuver to award Eden Hazard his 4th penalty of the League Cup campaign and the Blues a 1-0 lead. Liverpool played much the better side and only continuously poured pressure on the Chelsea defense before a cracking solo goal from Raheem Sterling drew the hosts level. Courtouis was then tested before producing the goods to end the affair all square going into next week's second leg, and for that Liverpool will feel a little hard done by. Pace seems to be the only thing that can disrupt Chelsea's defense and it was on good display much this game, particularly on Sterling's play. Chelsea will enjoy the upper hand however with their away goal ahead of next week's return fixture.
