Kilkenny Castle is a castle in Kilkenny, Ireland built in 1195 by William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke. It was a symbol of Norman occupation and in its original thirteenth-century condition it would have formed an important element of the defenses of the town.
This building played a part in Norman and British occupations as well as a role in the Irish Civil War.
Starting in the 20th century, the castle was resorted and opened to visitors. It is a beautiful place to experience some incredible history and is a great place to enjoy in good weather (the grounds are gorgeous!).
Be sure to check out the Kilkenny brewery as well for its world-famous Irish cream ale!
