I've been getting a lot of questions on how to treat dandruff, so I'm dedicating a card post on this topic. First of all, anyone who's experience this don't have to feel embarrassed. You're not alone. I've had it in the past and now I'm free from them. Thankfully, my mom is a cosmetologist and I've learned a few tips from her before I got into hair care, so now I'm sharing it with you all! In order to get rid of dandruff you need to understand how you got them. There are several factors which can cause dandruff such as skin dryness, infrequent washing, excessive brushing and increased stress. Even after you manage to get rid of dandruff, you will need to take care of these factors in the long run for a permanent solution. Here are some tips and treatments that I found helpful. TIPS: 1. Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Invest in a good anti-dandruff shampoo for your hair type. You should ideally wash your hair twice a week using lukewarm water, then dry your hair before brushing them lightly to remove any leftover flakes. Shampoo recommendation: Kiehl's Scalp Purifying Anti-Dandruff Shampoo. 2. Moisturize Your Scalp Dandruff is made up of dry and dead skin flakes which comes off your scalp. Therefore, it makes sense to keep your scalp well moisturized and prevent it from drying up or flaking. 3. Scalp Massage Hair or scalp massages are great for promoting blood circulation, stimulating your roots and relieving mental stress. I like using natural oils like coconut oil. Here's a card for more information on different types of natural oils: 4. Healthy Lifestyle Your immune system can weaken if you're are stressed, have inadequate sleep, lack exercise and not getting enough nutrients. All these factors affect the hormonal balance in your body and weaken your immune system, consequently promoting dandruff. Make sure you're eating well, getting enough rest, and exercising. TREATMENTS: 1. Coconut Oil and Lemon Juice Good for removing dandruff, excess oils and dirt form scalp. Method: Mix 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 4 tablespoons of coconut oil in a bowl and then apply the mixture on your hair with the help of your fingers. Leave it on for 30 minutes before washing it off with shampoo. 2. Egg White and Natural Yogurt Hair Mask Good for dry scalp and hair. Method: Mix 1 egg white with 2 cups of yogurt and apply the paste thoroughly onto your hair and scalp. Keep it on for at least 15 minutes before washing your hair with cold water, and you will notice the difference. THINGS TO AVOID: 1. Don't switch around with shampoo. This can irritate your scalp and cause it to produce more dryness and flakes! 2. Don't use styling products that weighs down your hair and encourage build-up. That's it! I hope you all found this helpful. If you have further questions or comment, feel free to ask or share!
Egg whites on hair sounds gross, but if it work I might as well give it a go. I have medium length dry wavy hair.
Any excuse for a scalp massage!
I use Nizoral shampoo and it works like magic! However, it's a bit strong and not so good for my scalp, so I should try some natural products. Thanks for sharing.
I've tried the coconut oil method and it helps get rid of those white flakes on my hair.
Do you use a special moisturizer or conditioner for your hair?
