Guy Builds Life-Size Lego Batmobile, Everyone is in Awe
A couple of days ago Nathan Sawaya finished his "strenuous" "challenge" of building a life-size Batmobile out of Legos. The process took about three-months and he used around 500,000 Legos. It's around 1,500 pounds and 18-feet long and if it were a real car and not a bunch of plastic pieces, he could probably sit inside and drive it around town. It's complete with "flames" that "shoot out of the back". When I asked him [I didn't contact him I'm making this part up] about his endeavor, he looked at me with a wry-smile and said, "I know everyone will think I'm awesome. I know I'm awesome. This isn't your child's plastic building block anymore." During the rest of the interview, Sawaya was taking sips from his mug -- which was also made of Legos -- as if he was trying to tell me to ask him about his workshop (also made of Legos). But instead, I steered the line of questioning back to his Batmobile. Or at least I tried. He stood by the "flames" and kept pretending that it was real fire. He slowly inched closer and closer to the plastic fire and said, "Paul, do you dare me? Huh? Do you dare me to touch the fire?" I nodded and he touched the fire and grinned in a way that I can only describe as uncomfortable. He looked at me then said, "Do you know why nothing happened to me?" I responded that it was because the fire was made of plastic. At this point he got angry and raised his voice, "No, Paul, it's because I am a god. Do you see what lay before you? Are you in awe like all of them are in awe? [he pointed at life size Lego men and women that lined his workshop] Do you see what they see, Paul? They are all in awe." I nodded out of fear. Sawaya had a look in his eyes that I've only seen on my dog when my dog sees a small bird or a squirrel. At this point, I was scared. Scared for my own life, for the lives of others, and how he kept pointing at the Lego men and women that stood before us. "They were like you, once," he said, "they didn't believe the way I do. And I can tell, the look on your face, the way you're retreating to the exit, that you don't believe." Sawaya stared at his hands for a while before cracking a sly smile. And I heard noises groaning from the life size Lego men and women. "You know, they call me the real Batman. The real Bruce Wayne. I've built my Wayne Tower, what do you think we're standing in right now? Christopher Nolan had no idea what he's done for me. Watching those movies, his trilogy, gave me life. Gave me a reason to live. I'll be the Batman. I will." That's when he threw a life size Lego batarang at me and I got knocked unconscious. When I awoke, I was encased in Legos, with the others, unable to move. If you are reading this. Please send help. [I don't know Nathan Sawaya and none of this happened. I'm sure he's a well-adjusted individual who just likes building things with Legos.]

Advertising is quite the competitive field. You've got to be a strong communicator, someone creative, someone who has their finger on the pulse of all the up-and-coming trends. But for every catchy jingle, winning slogan, or hilarious campaign, there's about a dozen horrible, cringe-worthy attempts at - frankly - trying to make 'fetch' happen. It's almost like the advertising world is overrun with 'cool Dads'. (No offense to Vingle dads, who are as cool as they come. Obviously.) To show you guys exactly what I mean, I've decided to share 9 different so-tryhard-it's-embarrassing advertisements. You homies better know what I'm sayin'. "It's the year 2015, guys. Let's update the name of our Meatlover's Pizza with something more current. You know, something that'll resonate with the kids today." "I know. How about... EPIC MEATZ?" "Okay, so, let's create a sign that tells people using our rec center where to put used towels. But in a way that, you know, really speaks to the kids." "I know! We'll use that song all the kids on Vine are twerking to these days." "The University of Cincinnati needs us, everyone. How do we get the kids off their Twitters and into their top-ranking business school?" "No one turns down the chance to be... MBAWESOME." "We've got a new client. Owns a taco shop. He's looking for a hashtag, wants to go viral. What do you think, Cool Dad?" "Uh... #TacosFTW. Obviously." I HAVE NO JOKE TO MAKE FOR THIS ONE. THE SECOND-HAND EMBARRASSMENT IS BURNING THROUGH MY RETINAS. "Cool Dad, Target is about to get a shipment of the 20th anniversary remaster of 'The Truth About Cats And Dogs'. How do we make Janeane Garofalo relevant again?" "Don't worry. I got this. LOL." "Alright, Smirnoff advertising team. We're losing the Millennial market to Ciroc. How do we show kids we can be cool too, but without breaking #NetflixAndChill's implied copyright?" "How's about a little #StreamAndHang, homie?" "Quick, Cool Dad. Taco Bell needs a hip and current package design that illustrates how delicious their chicken quesadillaz are." "TACO BELL. I CAN'T EVEN RIGHT NOW." "So, Cool Dad, I'm sorry you've been demoted to Fortune Cookie writer, but we think you've got a skill, sir. You really know how to speak to the younger generation." Someone Made a Destiny Weapon Out of Legos
If you've played Destiny, or just have friends that are really into the game, then you'll know that a big part of the game's allure is obtaining rare or elusive weapons. One of these weapons in particular is called the Sleeper Stimulant. There's some kind of lore behind it but you could probably just go to some website to find out about it the way Bungie intended. But what about those of us who don't have the resolve to do the insane amount of quests in order to achieve the greatness that is the Sleeper Stimulant? We have ZaziNombies to thank for showing us how to make one for ourselves out of Legos. If you watch the video above, you'll find out that it's a little over 2 feet long and weighs around 6 pounds. Which is kind of insane to me. I can't even begin to imagine the time and effort ZaziNombies put into building this behemoth. Throughout the video he takes pieces off the Lego gun to show you how he put it all together. It's kind of awesome that he found a way to accurately replicate something in a video game with Legos. But I guess that's what the little plastic blocks are for right? These days, I mostly eye Lego kits. Like boxes that have just enough pieces to build an X-Wing or a Star Destroyer. So it really amazes me when people take the blocks and build something that doesn't have instructions or come in a prepared box. Even though I haven't played much of Destiny (or have plans to) I can still appreciate the time and effort put into making a life-sized version. I know that I don't have the intestinal fortitude to go through with a project like this but I'm wondering if any of you guys do? I think the largest thing I've ever built was an X-Wing (never got to finish that Star Destroyer) so I can't imagine anything larger than that.
[Ladies' Week] Inspirational Ads
Ok. I usually don't like ads. But when it comes to sports ads, especially inspirational sports ads, I love watching them. I would sometimes go on YouTube just to watch motivational sports commercials over and over again. Well, once again, in celebration of Ladies' Week, I want to share some of my favorite sports commercials with y'all. Sit back and let's get pumped! 1. Nike - Better For It This ad's main message is to support women on their athletic journeys. We all have our own insecurities when it comes to working out. However, this particular campaign empowers women to be better through inspiration and motivation to push to the next level. It's so motivating and it also sends message to the rest of the world that there is no such thing as masculine or feminine when it comes to exercising. Everyone is equal and everyone has the power to turn "can't" into "can". 2. Always - Like A Girl This ad is definitely one of the most powerful ads I've ever seen in my life. Due to the stereotypes that exist in society, girls may lose confidence as they grow older. The rest of society could also be bound by these types of stereotypes. But this commercial can change the perceptions that people have of the phrase, "like a girl". It also has inspired me to take part in this campaign and change the phrase "like a girl" from an insult to something positive. 3. P&G - Thank You Mom Moms are the best. Even though I have not yet been a parent, I always get a bit misty when I watch this ad. A powerful element in this commercial is that athletes are not the focus here. Instead, the focus is on the dedicated moms that pick them back up when they fall. Of course, we cannot forget about all the dads around the world, but let me say this one more time: moms are the best! Legos Are Now Worth More Than Gold.
Looking to invest your money somewhere safe? Well, you might want to head to your local toy store. According to a recent report in the UK's Telegraph, financial analysts are beginning to suggest that - when it comes to turning a profit - Legos are the new gold. Within the past 15 years, the FTSE 100 - an index of 100 companies on the London Stock Exchange - has increased in value by roughly 4.1%. And while gold investments have seen an increase 9.6% annually, LEGO sets kept in pristine condition have surpassed them with a 12% increase on average. Bottom line? Legos are an investment that packs one serious return. So what kind of LEGO sets should you be investing in? According to avid collector Ed Maciorowski (seen right, with lots of Legos), the money is in franchise picks - movies, TV shows, and even more specific product lines within the LEGO brand: "The neat thing is that all sets are retired at some point, and several hundred are retired each year a movie run ends, a licence expires or the Lego company wants to refresh its range. That means anyone with a set at home – large or small, it doesn't matter – could have quite an investment on their hands if it's in good condition, as this stuff appreciates very well in value." The most coveted LEGO set, for example, is the 2007 Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon - which originally retailed for $500 and currently goes for over a cool $4,000. However, financial analyst Laith Khalaf warns that 'trendy' investments come with much more risk than more traditional options: "The returns from Lego look pretty awesome, but investors need to beware that the value of collectibles can be vulnerable to fads. There’s absolutely no harm in buying some pieces as a hobby, and you may well make some money, but as a main building clock for your retirement, I would suggest sticking to more traditional shares and bonds."
