Height Makes All The Difference
If you've got a stringent budget and absolutely bent on getting more than your money will get you, then you need to consider splitting up the tables and the tablescape budget. Half of the tables can get thrifty designs and the other half can get over-the-top designs. By mixing up the tables and the budget, you can get away with such a pendulum effect of size to the designs. As long as they are designed thoughtfully and are in proportion, then you shouldn't have a problem of stretching your already too-thin budget a bit further.

I've always liked the idea of mixing up centerpieces from one table to the next. I think it adds some dimension to the room instead of homogeny.

It's a great way to change things up. Another thing, by changing the centerpieces, it encourages people to get up and mingle from table to table.
