These two methods of consuming fruits and veggies has been increasingly popular. You've seen food companies crazily marketing ready-to-go smoothies and cold press juices within the last few years (ex: Naked Juice, Odwalla, Evolution, and BluePrints). So how many of you know the difference between the juicing and blending? My guess is a lot of you are confused by the terms. If so, here's what you need to know. [JUICING] This method separates water from the pulp in whole fruits and vegetables (leaving out the indigestible fiber and keeping only the soluble fiber). The nutrients (vitamins, minerals and antioxidants) from the juice are rapidly absorbed into the blood stream, giving you that health boost. [BLENDING] This method contains both soluble and insoluble fiber by combining whole ingredients that are purée until smooth. The fibre in smoothies will keep you satiated (feeling full) for longer. Also, your blood glucose levels will not be as dramatically affected by smoothies compared to juices, as the fibre helps to slow the absorption of the naturally occurring sugars down. What's the best option for you? Both of good choices if you are feeling lethargic, run down and want a quick energy boost. Below are some scenarios where you might choose one over the other. Go for juicing if... - you don't have a big appetite and also find it difficult to get adequate nutrients. - you are looking for a snack to have before exercising. - you have digestive difficulties such as leaky gut, IBS, or Crohn's disease. Go for blending if... - you are aiming to lose weight (smoothies keeps you full longer). - you want a quick easy & nutrient dense, meal to have on-the-go. - you are looking for a post-workout snack. - you want to clean and detoxify your body.
One time my best friend and I went on a juicing fast together for a few days, and he was blending and I was juicing and we had no idea that the other one had chosen the opposite method. Boy, was I surprised at the end of the week, hahah. But it's not that hard!
I'm a blending fan myself!
I am addicted to carrot juice because it fills me up without making me too full. The perfect snack :)
Very helpful...
@stargaze You sort of have to prep your body for it in the days leading up to the detox. I had to do a lot of research. But having all my friends know I was on a detox helped. They were really supportive and politely scolded me if I looked at a sandwich lol
