Today marks the 56th anniversary of the plane crash that took Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and Big Bopper's lives. I remember when I was younger my parents took me to see Buddy Holly the musical without telling me about this accident. I was so shocked that someone so young and so talented could be snatched from us so unexpectedly. On their way to their next gig, around 12:55AM on Feb. 3, the plane carrying Holly, Richardson and Valens took off in a snowstorm with strong winds. The plane traveled only a few miles before crashing, killing all four men instantly. The three musicians killed on the flight were some of the most talented musicians of their time, and their deaths shook the emerging world of rock and roll. In case you're wondering what Don McLean's 'American Pie' is about...its about what happened on Feb. 3 1959. "But February made me shiver With every paper I'd deliver Bad news on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step I can't remember if I cried When I read about his widowed bride But something touched me deep inside The day the music died"
