The writer of “Juno” is returning to television. Diablo Cody has sold a comedy to ABC. “Alex + Amy” is described as a romantic comedy about a 22- year- old millennial guy and a 32- year- old Generation X woman who fall in love and move in together. The single-camera comedy has gotten a script plus penalty order from ABC. Cody will exec produce along with her manager Mason Novick, and Amblin TV’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. Falvey and Frank both produced her Toni Collette vehicle “The United States of Tara,” back when Amblin TV was called DreamWorks TV. “Tara” was axed by Showtime after three seasons. The show was Cody’s first TV series, and earned Emmys for actress in a comedy (star Toni Collette) and main title design. “Juno” won Cody an Academy Award for best original screenplay. Ellen Page and Michael Cera starred in the 2007 film. She followed that with “Jennifer’s Body” starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, then “Young Adult” with Charlize Theron. Cody first came to prominence with a blog chronicling her year as a stripper.
