[1st-Feb-15] Arsenal 5-0 Aston Villa

Arsenal move level on points with Southampton as they put five past Aston Villa at home. The Gunners dominated the run of play before Mesut Ozil, playing in his first league game since returning from a knee injury, flicked a ball beautiful over the central defense for Olivier Giroud who ran in and scored the opening goal just 8 minutes into the contest. The second half saw Arsenal exert their dominance as Ozil swept home a low finish to double the lead. Theo Walcott then took a smart touch right on the edge of the box before scoring a well-placed curler to make it 3 before Cazorla slotted home a penalty to make it 4-0. New Arsenal defender Bellerin then struck a perfect shot along the pitch from distance to make it 5-0. For Aston Villa, the alarms have to be going off now. Winless in eight straight Premier League games, the last six of which they have not found the back of the net in, is abysmal and a is only matched by Hull City’s poor form. The lack of a striker has been the key issue all season, and Benteke’s form has all but left him. Two years ago he was hotly sought after having struck close to 20 goals for the West Midlands side, but two injuries in two years as all but dissipated his goal scoring ability. Villa also lack any goal scoring ability from the bench as well as Weimann’s ability not being that of a huge centre forward. That’s not to say Weimann and Agbonlahor will not score goals, but they are not, should not, and do not have the ability to be the big target men that Villa need up front. With just 11 goals in 23 games now, Villa are in need of finding the next in a few more games to ensure safety and their only saving grace at the moment is that there might be 3 worse teams in the Premier League than them: Hull, QPR, and Leicester City. Arsenal on the other hand continue to hit their stride. Ozil’s return was seamless and the Gunners are playing with the type of quality that kept them on top of the table during the first half of last season, and this is even without the services of their top scorer Alexis Sanchez, who is out due to injury for the time being. Arsenal are generally on the type of form that will secure them a Champions League spot, something they’ve been able to do under Arsene Wenger for over a decade now. Arsenal face Spurs in the North London derby next while Villa will be at home to the league leaders Chelsea on Saturday.

[11th-Apr-15] Tottenham Hotspur – Aston Villa
Spurs keeper Hugo Lloirs will be out with a knee injury while Kyle Walker is also unavailable due to injury. Defender Jan Vertonghen is a game-time decision as the Belgian is currently battling an illness. Aston Villa are without Carles Gil, Ashley Westwood, Alan Hutton, and Scott Sinclair due to injury, but wingback Aly Cissokho has been training with the squad all week and should be ready to make his return. Head-To-Head Tottenham come into the game unbeaten in their last 12 fixtures against Aston Villa, with 9 wins from those 12 including the last 5 straight. Spurs are also unbeaten in 10 Premier League games at White Hart Lane running back to November, having won 7 of those games during that time. Tottenham have also scored 26 goals in the calendar year so far, with only their North London rivals, Arsenal better. Harry Kane is still the target man, with 11 goals in his last 9 appearances for the club, and his 19 goals so far in the league have won or rescued 22 points for Spurs, more than any other player. Kane’s goal vs. Aston Villa in November is also the only goal scored by a Spurs substitute all season despite Tottenham having used more substitutes than any other Premier League side at 91. Aston Villa are the only side worse than Spurs at substituting scoring, having not scored any in the campaign so far. Villa’s last win at White Hart Lane was back in 2008 and Villa have this season lost 7 of their last 8 games on the road, with the 4-0 smashing of Sunderland, a game that ultimately cost Gus Poyet his job at the helm of the tyre-wear wide, being the exception. Villa are still on course for their worst ever points total in the Premier League of 38 points, which they secured in 2 of the last 3 seasons. Manager Tim Sherwood’s spell as Interim Manager saw him in charge of 22 games in the Premier League, with a 59% win rate; no other manager in Spurs history has a better win rate in the competition. Christian Benteke is the man to watch for Villa, with 7 goals in his last 5 appearances in all competitions for the Birmingham based side, including a hat trick in Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with QPR. Prediction: Villa will put up a hell of a fight but I don’t see them winning this. Can see Kane snatching a goal in the final 10 minutes to secure a point Spurs 2-2 Villa

Arsenal Upsets Bayern Munich!
Arsenal managed to keep their hopes up in the UEFA Champions League as they collected their first win of the Champions League against Bayern Munich. They were on the verge of elimination after losing the first two matches against Olympiakos and Dinamo Zagreb. It was surely an upset considering the fact that Munich was a favorite to win the whole thing. But here's the thing. Today's match was more like a match between Arsenal's Petr Cech against Munich's Manuel Neuer. Just take a moment to appreciate the stellar performance that these two goalies put on tonight. Here are couple of saves by Neuer. And here are some by Cech. It was impossible to get behind these two until this happened. In the 77th minute of the game, just three minutes after Olivier Giroud replaced Theo Walcott, Giroud scored the first goal of the game. Neuer, who was having a perfect night, lost sight of the ball in the air and let this one get by him. Yes, the greatest goalkeeper in the world do make mistakes. Then this happened in the 94th minute to seal the win for Arsenal. It seemed like Neuer saved this one, but take a closer look. The ball had definitely passed the goal line! A goal from Mesut Ozil to make the match 2-0 and brings home the victory at Emirates Stadium. Cech definitely was the game changer and MVP for Arsenal, but I feel like Wenger really should be given credit for last night's win. He was well prepared and his strategy seemed to be effective against one the best teams in the world! What do my football (soccer) fans think of Arsenal's victory?
További jó hír, hogy a külföldi online játékterek kaszinóoldalainak a különféle bónuszait magyar játékosok is igénybe vehetik, általában ugyanazokkal a megjátszási feltételekkel. Aladár Kollár
[25th-Apr-15] Match Preview: Man City - Aston Villa
David Silva, James Milner, and Wilfried Bony are fit for the match but Man City are without the services of Vincent Kompany, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy, and Stevan Jovetic. Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor could be fit for the match but Ciaran Clark, Nathan Baker, and Alan Hutton are out injured. Background Manchester City's fall from the title challenge has been a hard one and one that's prompted the calls for the sacking of manager Manuel Pelligrini. While it still looks solid that City will make the Champions League, the lack of success in both league and cup this season could be his downfall. Aston Villa are on a wild revival. Having remarkably outplayed Liverpool to reach the FA Cup Final on the 30th of May and beating rivals West Brom twice, Villa look to be on the rise under new manager Tim Sherwood. A game in pocket will mean their work in securing their Premier League status is not close to ending, but with a 3 point cushion their fight for survival is not a hopeless one. Head-To-Head Manchester City have won the last 7 Premier League games against Aston Villa, scoring 23 goals and conceding only 2 in the process. City have also won their last 4 home games, scoring 12 goals in those games. Midfielder Yaya Toure has scored in his last 3 games again Aston Villa. Aston Villa have taken 10 points from their last 6 Premier League games, which is equal to the number they took in the preceding 15 games. Villa also need 7 more points to beat their lowest ever finishing total in a season they were not relegated in, 38 points, a total they have finished on in 2 of their last 3 seasons. Christian Benteke is in hot form, scoring 9 in his last 7 games in both league and cup. Prediction: I like Villa to get something here. I can't decided if it's 1 or all 3 points but something for sure. Man City 1-1 Villa
20 Clubs in 20 Weeks: Arsenal
In a new weekly feature, we take a look at the clubs competing in the Premier League right now. This week we start with one of London's oldest and most successful clubs Arsenal. Nickname: The Gunners (supports often called the Gooners) Founded: 1886 Location: London, Middlesex, England Current Ground: Emirated Stadium Opened: 2006 Capacity: 60, 338 Last Year's Finish: 4th, Champions League 4th Round Qualifying Arsenal are the oldest club in the top flight. They were founded in 1886 and turned pro, joining the Football League in it's infancy in 1888. They played in the Second Division before first earning promotion in 1902. They played there for 11 seasons before their relegation in 1913 to the Second Division. In 1915 the First Division voted on who to add to the top flight in a controversial move as the First Division expanded to 22 teams from 20. Arsenal were promoted and have been in the top flight ever since. Arsenal's first big success started once Herbert Chapman took over as manager and in 1926 they finished 2nd in the First Division. In 1927 the Gunners made their first FA Cup final before finally winning it in 1930. Arsenal soon after won their first top flight title in 1931, scoring 127 goals in the process. They lost the FA Cup Final controversially in 1932 and finished 2nd that season in the First Division before winning it again in 1933. Chapman suddenly and tragically died in 1934 with Joe Shaw taking the reigns. Shaw oversaw the 1934 and 1935 title winning squads before winning another FA Cup in 1936 and the First Division a 5th time in 1938. World War II then suspended football until 1946, which saw Arsenal lose the FA Cup final, this time to West Ham. Two years later they won the First Division a 6th time before winning the FA Cup in 1950 and the First Division in 1953 on goal difference no less. Arsenal then struggled, not winning any trophies for almost two decades before their FA Cup & First Division double in 1971. Arsenal finished runners-up in 1973 before their worst First Division finish in almost half a century in 1976 in 17th. under manager Terry Neill they turned things around, making 4 FA Cup Finals between 1976 & 1980, winning the cup in 1979. When George Graham took over the club in 1986, Arsenal were on the decline before the former player managed to help guide the Gunners to their first League Cup in 1987 and another First Division title in 1989. The club's success really started to come to a forefront, winning the First Division title in 1991 and the FA Cup and League Cup double in 1993. In 1996, the club was looking for a new manager and made a surprise appointment with Arsene Wenger taking charge of the club. Arsenal improved incredibly under his management, finishing 3rd in 1997 and missing out on the Champions League on goal difference. In 1998, Arsenal won the now Premier League & FA Cup double, repeating the feat in 2002. In 2003, Arsenal won the FA Cup before their 2004 Premier League title winning campaign solidified themselves as only the 2nd ever side in England to go the entire top flight season unbeaten, earning them the nickname "The Invincibles". They won the FA Cup in 2005 before making their first and only Champions League Final in 2006, a loss to Barcelona. Arsenal then went 9 years between trophies, having just won the FA Cup last season in May 2014. Arsenal have been known for their attacking play and beautiful football style, including a lot of ticky-tack passes and never-ending flow. Their manager, Arsene Wenger is also still in charge of the club and is the longest tenured manager in the Premier League today. As of today, Arsenal sit 5th in the league and have qualified for the Champions League every year since their 1998-1999 season in the competition.
Let's talk relegation: who goes down this season?
Hey, we've almost made it! The English Premier League kicks off tomorrow, with Man United and Spurs getting things started at 7:45 ET Saturday morning. I'm anxiously anticipating the season and have been doing some previous about my pick for eventual champions, player of the year, and more; check it out here. In this card, I'm taking a look at one of my favorite parts of the EPL: the relegation battle. I'm naming the six teams that I believe have the best shot of going down, and I'll finish by picking the three that I have my money on (or, rather, against!) Which teams are set to finish in the bottom three? Sunderland Former Manchester City winger Adam Johnson may be Sunderland's best player. The problem is, Johnson was charged last season of having sex with an underage girl. So, that's really bad. Fuck Adam Johnson. They're also led by Old Man Jermain Defoe, big Romanian keeper Costel Pantillimon (another ex-City player) and newcomers Jeremain Lens and Yann M'Vila, both legitimately good players. Outside of that, though, Sunderland are completely devoid of innovation and energy. They finished 16th last season and just barely escaped relegation, and haven't gotten much better. There isn't much to get excited about here. Bournemouth Bournemouth won the Championship last year, gaining automatic promotion to the Premiership. It's their first time in the Premier League in the club's history. They scored tons of goals in the Championship last season and had a solid defense too, meaning they could make some noise. However, it could be a suicide kind of squad, a la QPR last season - despite last year's success, their defense probably isn't good enough to lock down Premiership-quality attackers and they could suffer for that. It's a tiny, tiny club, and based on that and their lack of star power (of which there is essentially none), no one gives them too great a chance of beating the drop. Overall, they're something of a mystery to most who didn't watch them last season, so there's really no telling what they're capable of. My bet? Not much. Leicester Leicester had a nightmare of a summer. After pulling off one of the greatest escapes in recent memory to avoid getting relegated last season, they were everyone's favorite minnows; then, a NSFW vide of three of their players (including the manager's son) with a prostitute in Thailand surfaced and the club has been mired in controversy since. On the pitch, they lost their most important player in Esteban Cambiasso. Striker Jamie Vardy might actually be good, but beyond him the pickings are slim: Riyad Mahrez is a fine midfielder and Rob Huth is a reliable center-half, but not good enough, really. They'll rely a lot on strikers Vardy and Leonardo Ulloa, but the rest of the team will struggle to match their energy and quality. Watford Watford were the second team to gain automatic promotion to the Premiership in last year's Championship. They have made some legitimately great signings this summer, bringing in quality players with experience all around the world: Etienne Capoue, Valon Behrami, and Miguel Britos will form a really solid defensive base. There isn't a whole lot to be excited about up front, but they could well be a team that is very tough to break down. It's not impossible to imagine them giving some top teams real trouble, especially at home - they figure to be a difficult squad to beat, even if they don't often secure all three points. Aston Villa Villa just barely stayed up last season, finishing 17th. They have a few quality players - baby-faced Jack Grealish, for one, looks to have a true breakout season, while defender Micah Richards hopes to revive his once-promising career and competent players Cieran Clark, Scott Sinclair and Charles N'Zogbia figure to be major keys for the squad. However, they lost their two best players over the summer - goal-scoring machine Christian Benteke (Liverpool) and midfielder Fabian Delph (Man City). Can the squad they have make up for the absences of the two true quality stars? Norwich City Owners of the Premiership's best kits, Norwich City gained promotion the hard way, via the Championship playoff. They were in the Prem just two years ago, then fell down after one season, and are now back; it's a ping-pong style that is totally unsustainable. Key players for Norwich are defender Sebastian Bassong, left wingback/winger Robbie Brady (who starred for Hull City last season despite their relegation), strikers Cameron Jerome and Ricky van Wolfswinkle, and most importantly promising winger Nathan Redmond. Redmond could well develop into a serious star, as he one was maybe the best player in the Championship last season. So, who goes down? With these six the most likely to drop down (with the possible inclusion of West Brom, who will probably be safe), it's going to be an interesting season at the bottom. My picks are Bournemouth, Leicester and Sunderland. Villa and Norwich will barely survive, while I see Watford having a solid season. Bournemouth simply don't have enough quality. Am I picking them to go down just because I know the least about them? Yes. But maybe the fact that I know so little says something about how good they are... Leicester are a mess after the Thailand scandal and were required a miracle late-season run to avoid relegation last season. The squad has lost its most important player and will not pull off the same escape this time around. Sunderland have been on the verge of going down too many season in a row to avoid the drop again. Average management, average players. They'll be relegated. Who are your picks?
Barcelona keep cruising in big day of Champions League results
The rich are getting richer in Barcelona. Coming off their drubbing of Real Madrid on Saturday, Barca continued their crazy red hot form with a 6-1 smacking of Roma in the Champions League. Luis Suarez scored twice - he's got 10 goals in his last 6 matches, now - and Messi also got on the scoreboard for two of his own in his return to action after nearly two months injured. With Suarez, Messi and Neymar in the form they have been in over the past full year now, it's so difficult to imagine anyone beating Barcelona, much less in a two-leg format that comes in the Champions League knockout stages. They truly are the best team in the world and with the return of Messi it's just scary to think about what sort of potential they have. Let's not forget that they played Roma, a really solid squad today. This was not a team that laid down and played dead while Barca ran rampant; they had legitimate opposition, but it didn't matter. They rolled right along. Elsewhere in the Champions League on Tuesday, Chelsea crushed Maccabi Tel Aviv 4-0 to establish some form of their own after a win against Norwich over the weekend. It was a great result for the Londoners and eases the pressure on Jose Mourinho, at least for now. Arsenal cruised to a 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb to keep their dreams of qualifying for the knockout rounds alive on the strength of two goals from Alexis Sanchez. Their win combined with Bayern's 4-0 win over Olympiakos means Arsenal will entire the final Group Stage match day with a chance of qualifying. These are all significant results given that this was Match Day 5 of 6 and now we have some real races and tight qualification challenges heading into the final day of the group stages. More great matches to come tomorrow with the highlights being Juventus vs. Man City and PSG playing host to Malmo, playing in Paris for the first time since the horrible attacks hit the city a week and a half ago. Keep an eye out for more great European continental football tomorrow! @InPlainSight @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @MarcusJiles @DerekGumtow @havic @yaakattackk @bnzatton @SherzTYCi @krishntejanand @addri @mishthi @andwas @NimishMathur @Sydsocquet @starli
