Sometimes, a friendly neighbor reports suspicious activity to the police, and huge meth labs are found and the producers are arrested.
Other times, the neighbor is 100% wrong and all that is found is a lot of maple syrup. Seriously. In Illinois, the neighbors of a family who make maple syrup on their property reported to cops that they suspected illegal activity. The cops showed up, only to be sent on their way with samples of the maple syrup being produced in the families yard.
As for the neighbors, well, the family, who has been making maple syrup for 5 years, shared: "I think my neighbors on their way to church see the buckets and stuff and think we've got a meth lab operation going on here. I just want to put their minds at ease, and let them know it's maple syrup. And that they're all welcome for pancakes if they want to come on over."
I hope they head over for some pancakes! I really haven't heard a stranger story than this. It seems people are getting too worried about illegal activity, rather than just asking. Props to the cops for showing up and asking for an explanation, rather than bringing in a SWAT time for no reason!
