1. Coffee with Butter
Also known as Bulletproof Coffee, this concoction is meant to get you pumped for the day and losing pounds fast.
What you need: Low-mold coffee beans, 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and 1-2 tablespoons of MCT(Medium-Chain Triglyceride) oil.
What it's for: All-day energy. The 400+ calorie drink is meant to get your head ready for the rest of the day so you only need one cup.
The downside: It's a lot of calories and bad fats without any other nutrients. It's filling enough to make you not want breakfast which means you're getting even less nutrients throughout the day.
2. Cricket Flour
It's exactly what you think it is: crickets mashed up into a flour-like powder and used in everything from protein bars to brownies.
What it's for: Crickets are full of iron, B12, protein and have nearly as much calcium as a glass of milk - so basically you get a ton of nutrients.
The future: In terms of sustainability, it has potential to help developing populations around the world to increase their protein intake from a much more affordable source.
3. Snail Facial Products
The world of beauty products and anti-aging creams is a weird one, but this is too much for me. The new hot ingredient to anti-aging face creams and masks is...snail mucus.
What it's for: Snail mucus contains nutrients and antioxidants that can make your skin look much more youthful (according to the people who are letting snails slither all over their faces for 45 minutes while the snails' tiny teeth produce a small scratching sensation all over the face...yum)
Downside: Dermatologists aren't convinced. "I'd be surprised if this has any lasting effect on skin health," dermatology professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center Dr. William Stebbins said.
