And the question becomes "now what?" Sometimes, when you sit back and read what you've written halfway through an essay, or you revisit an older piece of writing a few weeks later, you can't help but think, "Oh man, that is awful." While others might not agree, there isn't a way to make you not feel unsatisfied with it.

So what do you do?

If you're stuck on that piece...

Remember that bad writing happens. Sometimes stories or characters just don't work. Or you picked a subject you couldn't really connect with. Or you were just in the wrong state of mind when you sat down and got started.Go back to the drawing board and figure out how to make your story/essay/novel work. Remember, though, If nothing makes it work, you need move on to something else, at least for the time being.

Try a writing prompt...

You might find that you just cannot work on that piece right now. Or, you feel like nothing you write will be good, so you have no inspiration. So, try something totally different! Use some of the writing prompts available in the community here or here to get writing again. You need to just write!

Read something...

Reading is important for good writing. So, when you feel stuck, try to read something. Preferably something out of you usual field of interest then write about it. Helps me out when I'm in a similar situation. It will remind you that you can write good things, even if it's not what you initially wanted to write.

Just keep writing! In the words of Dory from Finding Nemo, just keep swimming, just keep swimming....

@starboy300 Just start writing! And, if you're feeling confident enough, try posting a bit of it and get encouragement from others, too. The best way to grow is to grow alongside constructive criticism. @MattK95 @hikaymm I think most people feel that way--because it doesn't feel forced. But, we have to work hard on sections of writing to make them work, even when it's hard! Seems we all need to learn where our "editing" stride is, too, eh?
@MattK95 My writing is SO much better when I get into a stride naturally and it just goes and goes and goes, too!
Sometimes when I write it's like the words just flow out of me without me really giving it too much thought, and often that's some of the best (at least in my opinion) writing I do. It seems very often though that I look back on aspects of my writing and think, where the heck was my mind when I wrote this garbage, the tips you gave were very useful though, especially the reading tip, if I'm having trouble I find devouring a good book really helps :)
I love to be a prolific writer but dont know where to start from.
