The Five Girl Scout Cookies You Probably Didn't Know Were Vegan
It's just about that time of year again. It seems that I can't go anywhere these days without seeing a troop of Girl Scouts going door-to-door or set up outside of a grocery store selling their incredibly popular cookies. (No, seriously. Why am I dieting again? This is torture.)
While you might not expect it, five out of the twelve varieties of Girl Scout cookies are actually 100% vegan. To make matters even better, one of which is their most beloved flavor - making up for 25% of their total cookie sales! Scroll down to check out which cookies are cruelty-free, and be prepared to start hunting for your wallet in a ravenous state of Girl Scout Cookie Season-itis.

1. Thin Mints

Yeah, that's right. Thin Mints are vegan. (Can I get a YASSSS?) As of this year, distributors of the Girl Scout cookie have officially reformulated the original Thin Mint recipe so that vegans and non-vegans alike can enjoy its chocolatey-minty goodness.

2. Thanks-A-Lots

One of the newer cookies, Thanks-A-Lots are standard shortbreads dipped in a layer of fudge. Each cookie has 'Thank You' written on them in one of five different languages. But really, a vegan fudge-dipped shortbread cookie? The thanks are all yours, Girl Scouts.

3. Peanut Butter Patties

Another popular offering, Peanut Butter Patties are made with a layer of peanut butter and a rich chocolaty coating. Unfortunately, Peanut Butter Patties are not nationally sold, so you might need to double-check with your local troop for details. (Basically, if the box is labeled Tagalongs, they aren't vegan, but if they are called Peanut Butter Patties, you're in the clear!)

4. Lemonades

Having spent a majority of my younger years as a Girl Scout, I remember that the lemon cream sandwich cookies were always my absolute favorite. Back then, we used to call them Lemon Chalet Cremes, but they went under a little recipe adjustment, and have since been released as the equally delicious (and now vegan!) Lemonades.

5. Cranberry Citrus Crisps

With no artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners, the Cranberry Citrus Crisps are easily the healthiest cookie the Girl Scouts offer. Each serving has 9 grams of whole grains, only 10 grams of sugar (REAL sugar, no corn syrup!), and only 150 calories.

This is really cool that they're tweaking the recipes to fit other people's diets - you go girl scouts!
@Sjeanyoon I was thinking the same thing. I love how more and more companies (even the Girl Scouts!) are making vegan options more readily available for people.
Is there a way to confirm if they're made WITHOUT refined white sugar? Because if they are (which is my assumption) - totally NOT vegan. Not even vegetarian.
@ririsyncyr The website labels them as vegan, so I am assuming it is a sugar that is suitable for vegetarians. However, of course, you would have to check the actual box for a certified vegan label to be sure.
