Arsenal Upsets Bayern Munich!
Arsenal managed to keep their hopes up in the UEFA Champions League as they collected their first win of the Champions League against Bayern Munich. They were on the verge of elimination after losing the first two matches against Olympiakos and Dinamo Zagreb. It was surely an upset considering the fact that Munich was a favorite to win the whole thing. But here's the thing. Today's match was more like a match between Arsenal's Petr Cech against Munich's Manuel Neuer. Just take a moment to appreciate the stellar performance that these two goalies put on tonight. Here are couple of saves by Neuer. And here are some by Cech. It was impossible to get behind these two until this happened. In the 77th minute of the game, just three minutes after Olivier Giroud replaced Theo Walcott, Giroud scored the first goal of the game. Neuer, who was having a perfect night, lost sight of the ball in the air and let this one get by him. Yes, the greatest goalkeeper in the world do make mistakes. Then this happened in the 94th minute to seal the win for Arsenal. It seemed like Neuer saved this one, but take a closer look. The ball had definitely passed the goal line! A goal from Mesut Ozil to make the match 2-0 and brings home the victory at Emirates Stadium. Cech definitely was the game changer and MVP for Arsenal, but I feel like Wenger really should be given credit for last night's win. He was well prepared and his strategy seemed to be effective against one the best teams in the world! What do my football (soccer) fans think of Arsenal's victory?
[Poll] Where will Guardiola end up?
It's one of the burning questions in the football world these days: Where will Pep Guardiola coach next season? I'd love for us as a Vingle community to take a stab at it. We know that Guardiola will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season (and Carlo Ancelotti has already been named his successor), but there is not yet any indication of where Guardiola will be next year. Lots of speculation, no certainty. Here are some of the possibilities. Manchester United Louis van Gaal will be lucky to last to the end of this season at the rate things are going right now. I wrote last week about the possibility that Mourinho could move in and take van Gaal's position before the end of the season, but assuming there is a vacancy at the end of the year, United could be a very attractive option for Guardiola. He loves the big clubs, and United have the biggest market of any club in Europe. It could be a great match. Manchester City Perhaps Guardiola will prefer Manchester's blue half. City are a club with bags and bags of money and that will be an extremely attractive aspect of the club for Guardiola, who will no doubt want to make some transfers wherever he goes to make his own mark on the team. Current manager Manuel Pellegrini is struggling this season, and the consensus seems to be that if he fails to win the Champions League this year, his time at City will be up. Guardiola would be the perfect replacement for the ever-ambitious City. Chelsea Chelsea just appointed Guus Hiddink their interim manager after firing Jose Mourinho, but I don't see Hiddink staying past this season. He derailed the Dutch national team and is a huge part of the reason they failed to qualify for the Euros and I don't think he'll do enough in his few months at Chelsea to turn the team around and convince the board that he's the man for the job. So, there could well be a vacancy in London come the end of the season. Guardiola is a great option for any club, but it makes tons of sense for him to take over Chelsea. They've got lots of money, but an old squad that needs to be retooled, and Guardiola coudl be just the man for them. My money is on Manchester City to be the landing place for Guardiola. I think he's going to be highly coveted, but City will be able to offer him more money than any other team and I think he's going to drool at the chance to take a team from aspiring world forces to the best team in the whole world, as he has done in the past with Barcelona and currently Bayern Munich. [5th-May-15] Match Preview: Barcelona – Bayern Munich
Bayern striker Robert Lewandolski is set to play the first leg of Munich’s Champions League semi-final first leg in a protective mask after he broke his nose and jaw in the German Cup semi-final loss on penalties to Borussia Dortmund. The German champions will also be without forwards Arjen Robben & Franck Ribery, along with David Alaba and Holger Badstuber. On the other side of the pitch, Barcelona are only without centre half Jeremy Mathieu for the tie. Background Bayern boss Pep Guardiola has some history heading into the fixture. A player at Nou Camp for 11 years, Guardiola won 6 La Liga titles and the Champions League crown before managing the side for 4 years, securing another 14 trophies in the process. Now at Bayern, he’s won 2 Bundesliga titles and the Club World Cup as well as the Champions League 2 years ago. Prediction I fancy Barcelona in this one but it will be tight. Bayern are without the players that carried them and won them the final 2 years prior and Barcelona have way too much class not to capitalize on it. Barca 1-0 Bayern
Barcelona keep cruising in big day of Champions League results
The rich are getting richer in Barcelona. Coming off their drubbing of Real Madrid on Saturday, Barca continued their crazy red hot form with a 6-1 smacking of Roma in the Champions League. Luis Suarez scored twice - he's got 10 goals in his last 6 matches, now - and Messi also got on the scoreboard for two of his own in his return to action after nearly two months injured. With Suarez, Messi and Neymar in the form they have been in over the past full year now, it's so difficult to imagine anyone beating Barcelona, much less in a two-leg format that comes in the Champions League knockout stages. They truly are the best team in the world and with the return of Messi it's just scary to think about what sort of potential they have. Let's not forget that they played Roma, a really solid squad today. This was not a team that laid down and played dead while Barca ran rampant; they had legitimate opposition, but it didn't matter. They rolled right along. Elsewhere in the Champions League on Tuesday, Chelsea crushed Maccabi Tel Aviv 4-0 to establish some form of their own after a win against Norwich over the weekend. It was a great result for the Londoners and eases the pressure on Jose Mourinho, at least for now. Arsenal cruised to a 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb to keep their dreams of qualifying for the knockout rounds alive on the strength of two goals from Alexis Sanchez. Their win combined with Bayern's 4-0 win over Olympiakos means Arsenal will entire the final Group Stage match day with a chance of qualifying. These are all significant results given that this was Match Day 5 of 6 and now we have some real races and tight qualification challenges heading into the final day of the group stages. More great matches to come tomorrow with the highlights being Juventus vs. Man City and PSG playing host to Malmo, playing in Paris for the first time since the horrible attacks hit the city a week and a half ago. [WATCH] Soccer Player Scores Five Goals in Nine Minutes!
I mean we hear about hat-tricks in soccer..... But five goals in one game? Five goals in just nine minutes? You don't see that too often in soccer. And Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich showed us exactly that. During Bayern Munich's match against Wolfsburg last night, Munich manager Pep Guardiola decided to change things up as Munich was trailing 1-0 at halftime. He decided to play Lewandowski in place of Thiago and.... First goal. And a minute later....his second goal. He gets a hat-trick in four minutes. But he's not quite satisfied. He gets his fourth goal of the match, two minutes after he got the hat-trick. And when we thought he was done, he comes in with his fifth goal of the match. That's right. That took nine minutes in total. Oh right. Munich crushed Wolfsburg 5-1 Yeap. It's official. Lewandowski is the fucking man. And as an FYI, the Bundesliga's leading goal scorer this season was Lewandowski's teammate, Thomas Muller with six goals. Lewandowski scored five in just nine minutes. He also took the number one spot after tonight's game. Here is a full video of Lewandowski's amazingness and just in case you guys were wondering... Once again, Lewandowski is the fucking man.

Champions League fixtures released!
The fixtures for the Last 16 of the Champions League have been released! Here are the highlight match ups. PSG - Chelsea Two teams that have met lots of times in the Champions League in recent years. Chelsea will be fighting hard in the league and may be low on energy. PSG will have already wrapped up their Ligue 1 title and will be able to focus on progressing. The pick: PSG. Arsenal vs. Barcelona Arsenal earn the toughest draw of all, playing against the near-perfect team that is Barcelona. It's going to be very difficult for them to beat Barcelona on a home-home aggregate. I don't see them pulling it off. The pick: Barcelona. Juventus vs. Bayern Munich This is the real gem of the Round of 16 match ups. Juventus pay the price for failing to finish first in their group and have to play Bayern, while Bayern get the toughest of the second-place teams in Juventus, who were finalists last year. The pick: Bayern. Gent vs. Wolfsburg I love it when two of the lower teams are matched up against one another, as it guarantees that we'll see one of these teams in the Last 8. Gent are a real miracle story after beating Valencia to the last 16 in the group, but I'm not sure they can beat Wolfsburg, who are playing well in Germany and in Europe. The pick: Wolfsburg. The other matches in the Round of 16 include: Real Madrid vs. Roma Benfica vs. Zenit PSV vs. Atlético Madrid Dynamo Kiev vs. Manchester City But the ones I've outlined above are the real standouts. Those are the matches to look forward to. The Round of 16 will be played on February 16, 17, 23, 24, and March 8, 9, 15, and 16. We've got a long time until then and form could easily change - I'll revisit these predictions when the time gets closer!
