The Grammy Awards is always a great opportunity for daring beauty looks, especially since I feel like musicians are much more 'risk-taking' than those drab A-List celebrities over at the Golden Globes. R&B songstress Jennifer Hudson was a terrific example of an artist that took some fashion-forward beauty risks with her red carpet look.
Radiant Orchid was Pantone's Color of the Year last year, but it seems that Hollywood still hasn't gotten their fill of this feminine purple punch of color. Here are three different ways to get Jennifer's lip look, ranging from matte lip pencil and sheer gloss to creamy lipsticks like the one Jen is wearing above.

1. Matte Lip Pencil: Bite Beauty's High Pigment Pencil in Violet ($24)

Bite, a beauty brand hailing from Australia and sold internationally, has gotten incredibly good reviews for their highly pigmented matte lip pencils. These pencils are available in 18 different colors, each containing the anti-aging benefit of resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant. (According to Sephora's website, each pencil comes with the amount of resveratrol found in five glasses of red wine!)

2. Sheer Gloss: Lancôme Juicy Tubes Jelly in Magic Spell ($18)

For those of you who want to try an orchid color with a little less opacity, I would highly recommend Lancôme Paris' Juicy Tubes Jelly in Magic Spell. The color is bold enough to be noticed, but sheer enough to be worn at school or in the office (or really anywhere that isn't the Grammy red carpet). At $18, it is actually one of the cheaper higher-end options, plus I love the squeeze tube aesthetic. It makes it all the more portable and fun to use.

3. Creamy Lipstick: Stila Color Balm Lipstick in Gemma ($22)

I always like Stila's variety of cooler-toned cosmetics, and I think that Gemma is perhaps my favorite orchid lip option. When Stila makes their lipsticks, they add just enough peppermint oil to provide a cooling sensation upon application. They also use organic sunflower oil to give the lips a little extra plumping, which I love. It also comes with a small mirror on the cap, so you can reapply no matter where you are.
I'm really digging the Lancome lip gloss!
@danidee I like matte colors sometimes too. MAC makes a lot of great matte lipsticks.
I love the idea of wearing this matte! Matte bold-colored lipsticks are my favorite.
@madeleine I think every woman should have one crazy lip color in her cosmetic stash. Even if this one isn't yours, you should find another bold color for nights you're really going out on the town.
She pulled it off really well and almost convinced me to purchase the Stila lipstick but I just can't imagine myself with orchid lips.
