Hungry? Can't fall asleep? These light late-night snack combo will help you snooze better. Make sure you to consume it one hour before you hit the hay to avoid indigestion.
Cereal + Skim Milk
The good old classic cereal and skim milk. Why it works? By consuming the two you absorb more amino acid than eating it alone (it almost works like the post-thanksgiving dinner slump). In addition, the calcium and magnesium in milk help you produce melatonin to help you sleep better. Note: Make sure you choose a low-sugar cereal!
Almond Butter + Banana
Peanut butter + banana used to be my favorite combo but every since almond butter came into the picture I had to let peanut butter go (sorry!). Anyways this combo is great mid-night snack but it can easily become a high-cal snack if you crazy with the almond butter! Keep it at bay before you hit the hay!
Non-Fat Greek + Melon
If you're dehydrated you'll have a hard time falling asleep. What you need to do is choose a watery fruit (like melon, apples, organges and pears) to make up any missing drinks during the day. Pairing it with greek yogurt and you'll have a perfect sleep-inducing snack. Don't go crazy with the combination!
Dried Cherries + Pistachios
Pistachios, high in protein, vitamin B6, and magnesium is healthy late-night snack. In addition, research has shown that cherry can help produce melatonin which aid in sleep! Combine the two and you'll get yourself a good night of rest. Just remember to not go "nuts" with the pistachios or it'll have a reverse effect.
Crackers + Skim Cheese
Again, lots of calcium and magnesium with this combo. Just make sure you choose skim cheese! Too much fat content can keep you awake! Go light with the crackers!
Chamomile Tea + Graham Cracker
If you have an upset stomach a cup of tea will solve the problem. Chamomile is my favorite evening tea for several reason - it's hydrating, full of relaxation agent and it soothes my nerves! All of those properties translate to a good night of sleep. Adding a cracker or two can help you fall asleep better.
