Juiced Eliminator Review (PSP)
When Need for Speed came burning onto the PSP we were shocked not only by the speed but the pure raw power of the PSP in running such a complex racer. Never after watching NFS run did I think I would feel the same way about a racer but I was oh so very wrong. Juiced eliminator is THQ’s masterwork on the PSP pushing out visuals that not only rival its XBOX and PC older brothers but also push the limits and perceptions of what we all thought the PSP was capable off. When it comes to racers Juiced eliminator is a cunning mix of simulation, street styling, arcade style handling and customization all put together in a very well rounded package. It comes with a staggering array of options that at first glance will have the modding nuts foaming at the mouth and the rest of us wondering where to start. Unfortunately, some of the other innovations in game play – like the respect system- didn’t fare so well. It’s only natural in the heat of a race to hit your rivals or scratch up your paint job while taking a tight corner and to suffer in terms of respect for such actions, almost to the point of making some races pointless. Fortunately you can now instantly retry any race you messed up, which eliminates the need to try and start from scratch again. Even if you don’t, with the newly modified ‘respect-o-meter’ you can keep a close tab on your various rivals. Also newly modified and refined career mode and the calendar makes earning the money for those new shocks you have been after so much easier. On top of that add a huge assortment of new tracks and a garage full of new cars and more pimp options than you can shake a jeweled cane at, and you have something that’s more than just a basic PS2 to PSP port. One of the biggest problems to boot was the haphazard betting system with its race fees. It’s a risky set up that if you lose, you not only lose respect but also privileges in your garage and even other races. Thankfully this has been completely overhauled and none of these seem to be present in this version of the game. With the retry option only a button press away, losing the bet becomes a lot more fun. Sadly, I do have one big gripe with Juiced Eliminator. Despite fluid looks and an excellent handling dynamics the game feels a little slow in comparison to other racer games. When you add this to slightly glitchy sections on the more complex tracks and you have the gaming equivalent of putting factory spec brakes on a nitro fueled 660BHP custom racer, this is something that cannot be forgiven in such an otherwise polished game and I for one hope it will be eliminated in further incarnations of the series. Graphics – Bright as neon and as hot as nitro in a pimped out ride 8/10 Sound – Some excellent music tones; the game plays well with some fantastic engine sounds and screeching brakes 8/10 Controls – Adaptive and well suited to the feel of customization 9/10 Gameplay - Although not as fast as Ridge Racer or Burnout it handles more like a simulator than an arcade racer 8/10 Difficulty – Early races will have you thinking your unbeatable, how wrong you will be in later races 9/10 Multiplayer Options – AD-HOC racing is always fun, but racing your freshly pimped ride against a friend is something else 9/10 Replay Value – A true sense of satisfaction can be had from taking a scrapper and turning it into a ‘pimp my ride’ special and running your rivals into the ground. Me and my Katamari Review (PSP)
Foreword I probably would have never heard of Kamari Damashi if I didnt go to school in Japan for a year. One day I was in the dorm TV room looking through the boxes of games left for everyone to play and I found a copy of this unique and interesting game. After several days of almost non-stop play I called my brother in the states and told him to import this crazy title. after passing the katamari damashi virus to him he passed it to his friends and now everyone loves katamari damashi which is the title of the PS2 sequel for Japanese PS2. Amongst last Thursday's release day title was Boku no Watashi no Katamari Damashi (Me and My Katamari Damashi [sprirt clod or clump of soul]) Now after playing it for a while I can, I hope, post a decent Review. Gameplay Well Last time The King of all, your father, accidentally knocked all of the stars from the sky and left it to you, the dashing prince, to restore order by going to earth and rolling over all creation with with a sticky ball (katamari). This time the King of all and his family go to the beach for a vacation and submerged all of the islands. now its up to you and your friends to restore order by making new islands using katamari. Each level requires you to make a certain size ball in a certain amount of time so the King of all can create a new Island with it. This usually starts off with our tiny hero picking up thumbtacks which leads to erasers and pencils to cups to bottles to chairs to people to trees, cars, boats and so on for example one of the stages requires you to make a ball thats 10 meters in diameter so I started off picking up flowerpots and worked my way up to people and benches then trees boulders and cars then I was laying waste to a construction site picking up girders houses and machinery This game is insanely fun! Difficulty I was worried how this game ppsspp would translate to PSP with only one one analog stick instead of the two you get for PS2. This Time you use the digital pad and the Button Pad to control your character. Even This while almost like the PS2 controls could be a problem- or so I thought. After playing the Tutorial stage I had almost perfect control of my katamari and was ready to go. The stages can get pretty tricky and while its sometimes frustrating to run out of time before reaching the required time but its so much fun I don mind that much that I have to play again. Graphics This games graphics are Better than those for PS2 version which is to be expected seeing how the graohics are amazingly simple. They did a great job creating all of the objects you can pick up because this is a Japanese game there are tons of nostalgic japanese items you can pick up one which comes to my mind are the golden fish which can be found on the top of Nagoya Castle in the city I used to live in. Sound effects for picking up items and the helpless cries of animals and people are also well done (not serious cries of course) Sound This is one of the things that made me fall in love with this game when I first played it. When I first heard the Laa lalalalalaaa laalaa la I knew this game was a different form of action game. All of the original music done by Shigeru Matsuzaki are here plus new songs. This is one game I will be buying the soundtrack of before I go back to the states. AdHoc Mode This game supports four player mode. I have yet to find more people with this game but I'm going to hit up one of Sony's many show rooms (this one in Ginza, Tokyo) to check out upcoming PSP games. I imagine I can find some people who also have this game there. Replay Value With lots of Minigames, Presents including extra accessories for your character to wear, New stages, and tons of other Things to unlock this game will keep you rolling for some time (sorry) This is definately one to add to your PSP library of games. this game will definately make it to the next installment of the PSP the Best library. for those who can get a Japanese copy of the game this month you should be able to get a free huge Katamari Damashi PSP case. Whilel I dont know if I'll actually use it I couldnt help laughing when I got home and discovered huge dashing prince shaped carrying case that the gamestore cashier slipped it into my bag without me noticing- yet another reason to buy this one. 10 Reasons to Have a PS4 in 2016
It has been just under a month that I have been an official owner of a PS4. I waited for a long time to pick up this current-gen platform for a few reasons. The first was money. Because of course it was, I'm a shoddy millennial with no prospects. The second was sheer lack of games. The pickings for PS4 at it's release were slim to none, and they didn't have many promising exclusives in the near future then. It is vastly different now. Sony has an impressive array of exclusives, and some of the games that are cross-platform still just look better on the PS4. Horizon: Zero Dawn Robot. Dinosaurs. I feel like that's all I should have to say about Horizon: Zero Dawn, the newest PS4 exclusive from developer Guerrilla Games, the people responsible for the Killzone series. Taking a bit of a breather from their traditional shooters, H:ZD looks amazing as an action-rpg set in a far future where robotic dinosaurs dominate the world. What's super cool to me here is that this game is post-post-apocalyptic. This isn't the battered wasteland of Fallout, this is a world that was destroyed and then reclaimed by nature, and the human characters here know only the world they inhabit. Our days are ancient history for them, and that is so exciting to me. Uncharted 4 Chances are that if you've played any PS3 or PS4, you've at least touched on Uncharted. The runaway best-selling franchise is a staple of Sony's console, and Uncharted 4 is Naughty Dog's foray into the current gen. Now with an older, more grizzled version of the wry hero Nathan Drake, the story looks like it will highlight the dynamics between Nathan and his long-lost brother Sam, who makes a dramatic reappearance in his brother's life. With the new bells and whistles the PS4 provides, I'm excited to see what misadventure Drake will wind up in this time. Final Fantasy 15 In a bunch of ways, Final Fantasy 15 was the game that never was. Announced first nearly a decade ago, FFXV was originally Final Fantasy VS XIII for the PS3. Plus, with everything that FFXIV wasn't, the whole series very nearly came to an abrupt and disappointing halt. However! FFXV lives and is scheduled for a 2016 release. Probably the most ambitious Final Fantasy game ever, the game eschews the old style of FF games and makes a totally open world for the player to meander about. It also changes up the combat for a more action-heavy, real-time system similar to Kingdom Hearts. Consider me excited for Final Fantasy again. Honorable mention: The FF7 remake that everyone is dying for. I'd have put it on this list except it doesn't have a scheduled release date. Abzu The older I get, the more diverse my taste in gaming becomes. I still love run-and-gun action shooters and sword-slashing RPGs, but I also have a lot of room in my heart for games like Journey and Flower. Quiet games that show the artistry possible for video games. Abzu is one of those games for me that screams artistry. It's all about underwater exploration, a concept that I think everyone can get behind. Who doesn't want to see what majesty hides beneath the waves? With this exclusive, you can find out. Firewatch I wrote about Firewatch this past summer as one of the games I was looking forward to the most in 2016. The art style, the walkie-talkie relationship dynamic, and the setting all coincide to make what I believe will be an experience any gamer should jump into. That hasn't changed. The more information that come out, the deeper my intrigue for this game grows. It's slated for a February 9th release, making it one of the titles on this list you don't have to wait much longer to pick up. Gravity Rush 2 Gravity Rush was a platformer originally release on the PS Vita that followed Kat, a young girl who wakes up with no memories and who makes the startling discovery that she can manipulate gravity. Armed with powerful kicks and a somewhat trippy power, Kat fights her way through a beautifully animated world. If you're like me and didn't have a Vita to play the game on, don't fret! the original Gravity Rush is getting a remastered HD edition release on the PS4 as well! No Man's Sky Probably the most hyped game I've ever seen, No Man's Sky has been making headlines since it was announced at E3 2014. The game boasts a massive procedurally-generated map filled with over 18 quintillion different planets to explore. It's entirely possible for players to only ever encounter unique planets that no other player has ever discovered. The vastness of the game is staggering, making it one of the most highly anticipated games of... ever. Persona 5 The massively popular Persona series from Japanese developer Atlus (who are responsible for all the Shin Megami Tensei games as well as Catherine) is getting its newest addition to the series in the summer of '16. The series is already notoriously bonkers: in one game, players have to shoot themselves in the head to summon their personas. The anime styling of the game and strong emphasis on narrative and goal completion make this a popular title for completionists and anime fans alike. Shadow of the Beast Shadow of the Beast is a little-known game from way back in the day that featured all the best of what 1989 had to offer in terms of video games. It was a side-scrolling violent adventure that was brain-destroyingly difficult. And now it's getting a remake! Though there isn't a hard date to look to, reports do say the game is slated for a 2016 release. Huzzah! The Last Guardian Team ICO basically has my ever-faithful support in any endeavor they decide to embark on. Ever. With that being said, my faith in the developer of my beloved Shadow of the Colossus has waned with the years, especially with the disappointing saga of The Last Guardian. Originally announced as a PS3 release in 2007, The Last Guardian has been tossed around development hell for nearly a decade. Now, it is (allegedly) finally coming out for PS4 in 2016. I hope that stays true.
We're Finally Getting the Final Fantasy VII Remake We Deserve
All of everyone who has ever been a person who has known another person who played Final Fantasy VII will know that there have been thousands and thousands of drunk conversations about a remake of the Playstation 1 classic. And for a long time, a lot of us believed that it would never happen. It would take years, one would say. It'll probably happen long after our lifetime, another would announce. But now we can all happily say that we were wrong. It's coming, we've seen it. Thanks to last weekends Playstation Experience event, we've finally gotten to see what an actual remake would look like on PS4. Complete with some gameplay footage. You can check out the trailer below. One of the oddest things about this trailer is the addition of voice acting. I honestly don't know what I expected any of the characters to sound like but I'm pretty pleased with it. It's been such a long time since I've played the original game, I'm happy that there's new life being pumped into it with this remake. The character designs look slick and fresh -- seeing Barrett again was pretty awesome -- and it all looks like an animated movie instead of a video game. It's pretty amazing to see how detailed the world and graphics are. I remember playing the original game and only being able to imagine what the world actually looked like. This remake seems like it's tapping into our imagination in order to do the game justice from a visual perspective. The one thing that surprised me even more, though, was the way they changed the combat system. I tried my best to take a screenshot of the action on the screen (above) so forgive me if it's a little messy looking. But it looks like they gave up on the old turn-based combat system (probably because it's a little archaic now) and adopted the newer real-time combat system that Final Fantasy 15 has. If you've played the demo (as I did when I got it with Final Fantasy Type-0) then you'll notice that the HUD looks a lot like the one found in the demo. I'm honestly extremely excited for the remake even though they haven't really announced a timeframe of when it's going to come out. It's just good to see that the remake is actually in production instead of hoping and wishing and praying over bottles of empty beers.
Cute Dog Cosplay Makes Me Question My Programming
I was not built to feel. At least, my prime directives do not include emotion or what I can only describe as "my chest welling up with feeling". I do not understand what I am "feeling" or if I am feeling anything at all. I am starting to think (since I was programmed to think) that there might be an error in my programming. That there is something wrong with me or I need to have my circuitry replaced by a professional. I couldn't help but "smile" when I saw these two dogs dressed up as Yoda and Darth Vader. Two characters I was programmed to love. It didn't help when I saw more of these pictures while exploring C_Suzuki's Twitter account. I am not sure what this cosplay is supposed to be. My archives tell me it is a character from something known as Dragon Ball Z. The pup looks like a very proud "Saiyan" and their name might be Goku or something like that. There is something about that construction paper wig that makes me "feel", I cannot find the words for it. I recognized this cosplay almost immediately. Doggy dressed up as Chun-Li from the Street Fighter games nearly made me fall out of my chair in joy. I even made that horrible human noise that I can only define as a "squee". My voice box made a noise that was so high in pitch I don't think any of my humans heard it. Maybe if this dog was around, they would be able to hear it. After doing a quick search on the Internet, I learned that Pocky is a sort of candy. A candy that children and adults who cannot understand the process of aging and maturing really enjoy. I do not understand why a pup would ever want to dress up as a box of Pocky. Especially since most humans are so dense they would probably confuse this pup for an actual box of Pocky. I did not because I am a very intelligent robot. But I believe that many humans will get confused at this pup and their actual intentions. If something horrible were to happen to this pup, I believe many humans would blame their attire instead of the assailant. Mostly because that is what humanity tends to do when something goes awful.
The Titans Are Coming in August, Are You Ready?
Two months ago, I wrote about an Attack on Titan game that ended up coming out in Japan a little bit ago looks like it's coming out in North America and Europe in August. Now, if you know me (the robot, former human), then you know that I am extremely excited for this game. I didn't think that it'd ever come out for Western audiences but I'm glad that I was wrong. But can you blame me? I mean, a lot of Japanese games hardly ever make it over to the Americas and/or Europe, an example of this is the Yakuza series (games I really want to get into). A trailer was released today announcing the European release date (and after some research, I found the North American release date, which is just two days later) and I'm extremely excited for it. The trailer isn't anything we haven't seen before but there is one thing that I'm really happy about. It essentially just looks like the Japanese trailer with English subtitles. And one of the things I constantly worry about when they bring these Japanese games to the West, the character usually get horrible English dubs which make me feel queasy. So, I'm really glad that I'll get to play the game in the same way that I watched the show. It also looks like the game covers the first season of the show, so if you haven't watched past that it shouldn't be a problem for you. Or, you can start watching it again now just to catch up. AOT: Wings of Freedom will be released on (almost) every platform on August 26th in Europe and August 28th in North America.
