I don't follow many television shows, but I am definitely one of the millions out there that have fallen in love with the "Downton Abbey" series. I've polish my refined British accent and pretty much drank my weight twice over in "Downton Abbey"-themed teas. My two favorite characters have always been Carson, the estate butler, and Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham and official collector of the world's sassiest hats.
In an interview with 'The Sunday Times' over the weekend, actress Maggie Smith - royalty in her own right - announced that Violet would not be returning to the show after the next season. It's pretty much the worst news ever because I seriously adored the way the matriarch of Downton really whipped everyone in line. There was so much drama going on season after season, and Violet was always keeping her cool. (Countesses don't have time for petty shit. Let's be real.)
"I can't see how it could go on. I mean, I certainly can't keep going." She explained before adding her very 'Violet' trademark frankness. "To my knowledge, she must be 110 by now. We're into the late 1920s."
She does have a point, as the timeline of "Downton Abbey" has moved quite rapidly since the beginning of Season 1. But I am going to seriously miss Maggie Smith and Violet Crawley's undeniable knack for really stealing a scene. Sigh.
