Newcastle United’s Papiss Cisse and Manchester United’s Johnny Evans have both been charged by the FA today for allegedly spitting at each other in the game between the two sides on Wednesday. Cisse has since apologized and accepted the charge, which could see him banned seven games (six for the initial spit + an additional game have already been sent off this season). Evans has denied deliberately spitting at Cisse and has until 13:00 EST on Friday to respond to the charge.
Six to seven games is over half of the remainder of the season and could really hurt both squads, Newcastle more since Cisse’s really been their driving force offensively this season. We’ll more than likely get the results on Friday ahead of the FA Cup and lone Premier League game this weekend.
