Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has been charged with improper conduct after he was sent to the stands in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Hull City. Poyet was angered over a booking on Jack Rodwell for diving, which prompted a row between Hull manager Steve Bruce and Poyet. Steve Bruce has been formally reminded of his responsibilities via a phone call that took place on Thursday from the FA. Poyet could face a one game suspension after he kicked a water bottle on the way to the stands.
Personally I feel this is harsh. Bruce and Poyet were quick to get over the row and even stated to the media they have no issues with each other, Bruce even suggesting to split a bottle of wine over it. Poyet in the pictures from Tuesday’s game did just look awfully tired and who can blame him? The implosion with Adam Johnson and still having to train the team for a midweek relegation scrap of a game probably took a lot out of the man, and Poyet himself admitted the Johnson arrest capped off “the most difficult” of days in his tenure at Sunderland. I would personally like to see the charge rescinded but I doubt that will happen and he looks set to sit out 1 game.
