Bradford City are expected to have the services of Filipe Morais available again, as the squad head into Saturday morning’s FA Cup 6th Round tie with a fully fit squad. Their opponents Reading are expected to be without midfielder Jem Karacan who is not fit and defender Anton Ferdinand, who is still battling a calf injury.
Bradford has already knocked out Championship opposition, dumping 22nd place Millwall out 4-0 in a 3rd Round Replay before coming from behind to stun the Premier League leaders Chelsea. This was followed up by their win over Sunderland in the 5th Round to give the Bantam’s their first 6th Round appearance since 1976. Bradford will hope to repeat the glory of the last time they were in the semi-finals way back in 1911, a year they also won the FA Cup.
For Reading, this marks their third 6th Round appearance in the last 6 years, but the run has usually stopped there with only their 1927 Semi-Final being a round better. The last time the sides met in any competition, Bradford ran out 2-1 winners in a Championship season that saw the Bantams relegated. The previous and only FA Cup tie between the two sides was in 1907, where Bradford won 2-0. It was also the first time the sides ever played each other.
Bradford have the quality and Reading are more likely to be focused on their relegation scrap. Bantams will not be good enough to win outright and I expect a replay to ensue.
