Are you struggling with a smoothie craving but its way too cold outside for a icy drink? Never fear, warm winter smoothies are here!
At first I thought that this sounded pretty gross (I hate when I accidentally leave my smoothie in the car when I'm shopping for something and it gets nice and luke warm...) but after checking out these recipes I fell in love!
Oats and Chocolate Smoothie
15g/0.5oz dark chocolate, chopped
200ml/6.75floz almond milk
20g/0.7oz rolled oats
½ a ripe, medium sized banana
5g/0.2oz chia seeds
20ml/0.7floz cold water
Add the dark chocolate to a jug and pour in the almond milk. Microwave until the mixture is warm and the chocolate has melted (you can do this in a pan if you prefer).
Add the oats, banana, almonds, chia seeds, the water and approx. a fifth of the almond milk to your smoothie maker or blender. Add in an extra splash of cold water if you think the liquid is too warm (see warning above about hot liquids and smoothie makers).
Blend on high for a minute until the oats and chia seeds have been completely incorporated.
Whilst it's blending, further heat the rest of the almond/chocolate mix until hot, but not boiling.
Pour the blended oat mix into your cup, stir in the almond/chocolate mix and serve.
Warm Apple Pie Smoothie
1 apple, cored and cut into chunks
½ cup / 120 ml water
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon maple syrup
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
A pinch of nutmeg
A pinch of allspice
1 scoop protein powder (optional)
Combine apple, water, vanilla, maple syrup and spices in a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into a mug and microwave on high for about 2 minutes.
Sprinkle with cinnamon, and if you’re feeling particularly daring, add a bit of whipped cream on top. Serve!
Autumn Chai Smoothie
2 frozen bananas
2 cups of nut milk (almond of cashew works best)
1 teaspoon of tahini
1 teaspoon of coconut oil
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of cardamon
1/2 teaspoon of powdered ginger
1/2 teaspoon of fresh ginger
a dash of freshly grated nutmeg
1 teaspoon of coconut nectar (optional if you like it sweeter!)
Blend all ingredients until smooth and creamy. Taste to see of you need to add any additional spices or sweetener.
Pour into a glass and scatter with coconut and cinnamon. Stick in microwave for 30 seconds. Enjoy!
Warm Banana Smoothie
1 cup warmed almond milk (or milk of your choice)
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. hemp seeds (can use chia seeds or alternative)
Boil milk on stovetop or microwave until hot (1-2 minutes)
Put sliced banana's warm milk, cinnamon and hemp seeds in blender and blend for a minute.
