Simple Surprising Ways to Improve Your Memory

1. Stay mentally active

Just like going to the gym to keep your body in shape, your brain needs activity to keep it in tip top condition! Try crossword puzzles or sudoku. Read a section of the newspaper that you normally skip. Take alternate routes when driving. Learn to play a musical instrument or to speak a new language!

2. Socialize regularly

Social interaction helps ward off depression and stress, both of which can contribute to memory loss. Get together with loved ones, friends and others — especially if you live alone.

3. Get organized

You're more likely to forget things if your home is cluttered! Start using a special notebook, calendar or electronic planner.
It might also help to connect what you're trying to remember to a favorite song or another familiar concept.

4. Sleep well

Sleep is when your body recharges all of your batteries, including your brain. Be sure to sleep an appropriate amount of time (try to grab 7 hours a night at least) to make sure your brain is getting the full benefits.

5. Eat a healthy diet

A healthy diet might be as good for your brain as it is for your the rest of your body. Eat fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Choose low-fat protein sources, such as fish, lean meat and skinless poultry. What you drink counts, too. Not enough water or too much alcohol can lead to memory loss.

6. Include physical activity in your daily routine

Along with that brain activity, get the blood pumping with some cardio! Aim for at least 30 minutes of cardio that gets your heart pumping!

Sleep has such a strong effect on my memory, I seriously can't think straight without at least 5 hours haha
My grandpa has been doing crosswords and going to the gym and he's the sharpest 88 year old I know!
Trying to memorize stuff helps you get used to remembering things. My mom always made me memorize poems when I was little haha
@nokcha I believe it is really just talking with people. Discussions make your brain work harder than just consuming words or video, etc :)
