How To Make Grand Marnier - Alcoholic DIY

Skip to 1:27 to get started on this amazing Grand Marnier imposter. I chose this because another Vingler (@NixonWoman) recommended serving Cadillacs for my wedding. And you can't have a Cadillac without Grand Marnier. If I can make this myself, then I can significantly cut down on the cost of booze!
Ingredients
26 oz cheap brandy
1.5 cups white sugar
1 large orange
12" square cheesecloth
128 oz wide mouth jar
12" string
Directions
1. Pour brandy into jar.
2. Pour sugar into jar.
3. Wrap orange in cheesecloth and tie.
4. Hang orange by the cheesecloth OVER the brandy mix leaving about 1 inch between the orange and the brandy.
5. Cover with lid and let rest in a safe spot for 4-5 weeks.
6. When sugar is completely dissolved, remove orange and strain liqueur into glass bottle.
NOTE
Sugar must be completely dissolved by the end of week's 4 or 5. Sometimes it occurs at week 3. Watch it.
Also, when straining liqueur into the bottles, it's always a good idea to use muslin as it will catch any sugar granules if present.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot Glasses
In honor of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, here is a deliciously fun way to get your chocolate chip cookie fix during happy hour: Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot Glasses! And in case you think I am making this holiday up, you can find it , and a ton of other national holidays that will blow your mind at National Day Calendar online. This 4 1/2 star recipe comes from All Recipes user, Nicole Faust Hunt, called "Absolutely The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies." To make the shot glasses, you will need a 'popover' pan. Otherwise, you can make these using small cupcake pans. However, the shape of the glass will not look like a shot glass. Ingredients: 1 cup butter flavored shortening (not butter) 3/4 cup white sugar 3/4 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 2 teaspoons Mexican vanilla extrac t2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 2 cups milk chocolate chips Chocolate candy melts (for later) Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease the pan. In a large bowl, cream together the butter flavored shortening, brown sugar and white sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla .Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, fold in the chocolate chips. Press the cookie dough into the popover pan bottom and sides. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until light brown. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Separately, melt the chocolate candy melts in a microwave or a double boiler. Once the cookie shot glasses have cooled, spoon in the candy melts, covering the bottom and inside cookie walls. This will harden relatively quick, or you can put it in the fridge. This coating will prevent liquids from being absorbed into the cookie. After this is all done, fill these with milk for the 20 and younger crowd or click here for imbibery goodness that you can fill your chocolate chip cookie shot glasses with!
What To Drink Tonight: Hot Toddy with a Twist
I was browsing the internet for hot drink recipes when I stumbled across this twist on the classic Hot Toddy. For those of you who don't know what a Hot Toddy is, it's a classic hot alcoholic beverage typically enjoyed during the cold months of fall and winter. It lights the most delightful fire deep inside you, filling your body with warmth that spreads all the way to the tips of your toes. A classic hot toddy contains: whiskey hot water spices (such as cinnamon and cloves) lemon juice honey Keep in mind, there are about a million variations. But that's the classic, and it's been a beloved homespun cold and flu remedy for decades. This twist on the old classic is called a Pearman's Toddy, and it's what you should be drinking on this chilly fall night. Now this variation is particularly suited to fall because of the homemade cinnamon simple syrup. Fill your home with the delicious wafting scent of cinnamon while preparing an alcoholic beverage to enjoy with a loved one? Yes, please! Another reason the Pearman's Toddy is so interesting to me is the replacement of whiskey with gin. The notes of pine and bitter herbs in a good gin make it a particularly attractive autumnal spirit in my book. Combine that with a bit of lemon juice, cinnamon simple syrup, and a shake of good old Angostura bitters, and you've got the perfect thing the keep you warm tonight. Make your own Pearman's Toddy! Recipe adapted from Saveur You'll need: 2 oz. gin 1 oz. cinnamon simple syrup 1⁄2 oz. lemon juice 1 dash Angostura bitters 5 cinnamon sticks 1. Make the simple syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 2 cups water, 1 1/2 cups sugar, and 4 cinnamon sticks and bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until sugar has dissolved. Discard cinnamon sticks and set aside. 2. Make the cocktail: Rinse small saucepan and re-use to heat gin, syrup, lemon juice, and 2 oz. of water. Pour into a mug or mason jar and add bitters. Garnish with last cinnamon stick, and enjoy the feeling of warmth spreading through you!
