Noramoji: the old-school fonts of Japanese shops
Noramoji--literally translated as "stray characters"--are the fonts unique to small shops all around Japan. The Noramoji Project is a group collecting such fonts for preservation and use online. Wear and tear from the elements often gives the fonts an old-school, homey feel. They express traditions of art and design local to the small shopping districts now dying out in Japan as cities grow and change.

I love JAPANESE fonts. It's one of the reasons I like walking around Japanese bookstores. Ahhh typo.
