Skincare Ingredients To Avoid
How many of you actually know what you put on your skin? Mass produced beauty products usually have more than 10+ ingredients listed on the container. Most of us are probably lost after reading the first line. While most of the ingredients are harmless to the skin there are six ingredients you should be aware of.

1. Mineral Oils

(Found in baby oil, body lotions, soap, makeup)
What it is: A petroleum by-product.
What it does: Gives the 'illusion' of moisturizing due to oily nature.
Health Risks: Clogs pores, interferes with the bodys ability to eliminate toxins, slows skin’s natural cell development, causing premature aging.

2. Sodium Laureth/Lauryl Sulfates (SLS)

(Found in detergent, cleaners, liquid soaps, shampoo, bubble bath)
What it is: foaming agent
What it does: creates foam for degreasing
Health Risks: Skin irritation, hair loss, eye damage, depression, labored breathing, diarrhea.

3. Parabens (Methyl, Propyl, Buthyl, Ethyl)

(Found in makeup, lotions, and shampoos)
What it is: A preservative
What it does: Prolong shell life of a product
Health Risks: linked to breast cancer tumors, may contribute to sterility in males, hormone imbalance in femalesand early puberty

4. Phalates

(Found in beauty and personal care products)
What it is: A preservative
What it does: Prolong shell life of a product
Health Risks: Damage to liver & kidneys, birth defects, decreased sperm counts, early breast development in girls & boys.

5. Triloscan

(found in soaps and disinfectant gels, toothpastes)
What it is: Synthetic antibacterial ingredient, also labeled as a pesticide.
What it does: inhibit bacteria growth
Health Risks: Carcinogenic, can affect sexual function and fertility, causes, birth defects, lowers immune system.
