The young British professional racer Jann Mardenborough was involved in a crash in a in Germany. The crash resulted in the death of one spectator. Mardenborough was competing in the VLN1 even at the Nurburgring Nordschleife when his Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 flipped up in the air as it crested a rise on the track.
The under tray of the car is what caused it to crash. Under trays are used to help create even more downforce to glue the car to the track. However, for track sections such as the Flugplatz if you get partially off the ground, the under tray can create lift, throwing the car into the air.
Despite an immediate response by emergency crews, the spectator died at the scene. Mardenborough, friends, family, and other spectators were visibly distraught by what had happened.
