F/A-18 Super Hornet cockpit footage from a Western Pacific deployment
Despite being in service for more than 30 years, the F/A-18 Hornet continues to be a mainstay of American air power. This craft is used by the US Navy and Air Force, as well as the air forces of Spain and Australia. A more modern variant, the Super Hornet is used extensively by the US Navy on aircraft carriers. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to be launched off the deck of an aircraft carrier in a $60 million fighter jet, there’s a video that can help you imagine it properly.
In addition to the takeoff and landing, we get a frontrow seat for some crazy low-altitude maneuvers. Gliding just a few hundred feet above the ocean, the F/A-18 can still perform daring maneuvers at up to 7.6g of force. Of course, the pilot might have something to say about that. The top speed of the aircraft is Mach 1.8 (1,190 mph), but we don’t get anywhere near that in the video.
