Baking is something I am learning to love as I get better and better at it. But when it comes to baking HEALTHY treats for my four legged friends, suddenly the pressure is off to be perfect.
I found this amazing cookie recipe for dogs. Humans can eat these too! Angela Colley shared the recipe on MoneyCrashers.com, which is a blessing because the whole animal food industry is too darn expensive if you want to feed your babies something healthy.
2 cups of flour (white or wheat, if your pup has no wheat allergies)
1 cup of rolled oats
1/3 cup of smooth peanut butter (make your own or buy organic)
1 tablespoon of honey
1/2 tablespoon of fish oil
1 1/2 cups of water
Preheat the oven to 350*
Mix the flour and oats together in a large bowl.
Pour in one cup of water and blend until smooth.
Add peanut butter, honey, and fish oil, mixing until all the ingredients are incorporated.
Slowly add the water until the mixture has a thick and doughy consistency.
Lightly flour a cooking surface.
Roll the dough onto the cooking surface to create a 1/4 inch thick sheet.
Use a cookie cutter to create cute shapes you love (but your dog could care less about).
Place the cookies onto a baking sheet and bake for 40 minutes.
Allow to cool completely before feeding.
*Always use common sense and consult with your dog's veterinarian or canine healthcare professional before feeding them homemade (non-manufactured) food or treats.
