[11th-Apr-15] Match Preview: Southampton – Hull City
Southampton will be without Filip Djuricic in the midfield, but Steven Davis and Florian Gardos will return to the squad. Hull City’s David Meyler is suspended for the game and the Tigers should also be without the services of Andy Robertson and Curtis Davies. Gaston Ramirez is also unavailable due to the loan agreement.
Southampton have won 7 of the last 8 meetings in the league between the two sides and Hull have not won at Southampton since their 3-2 win in 1951 over the Saints. Southampton are struggling however, claiming only 11 points from their last 9; Hull have taken 9 in that same stretch of time. Southampton have also won 8 of their 11 games against clubs below them in the table, only losing 1 of those games. Southampton’s defense has been impeccable at home, with 10 of the Saints’ 14 clean sheets coming at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Hull have won only 1 of their last 14 Premier League games away from the KC Stadium and Hull have yet to win a game against any opposition in the top half of the table, with 5 draws and 10 losses. Only Southampton and Hull City have yet to concede a converted penalty this season in the Premier League. Nikica Jelavic seems to be the key man for the Tigers, with Hull taking only 3 points from an available 27.
Prediction: Southampton are just too good at home, despite Hull’s improved play with Jelavic in the squad.
