¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, peeled and chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
¼ cup freshly chopped basil
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
salt and pepper, to taste
- Heat the oil in a large pot over medium low heat. Add the onion and sauté until softened and translucent, about 8-10 minutes. Add the garlic and cook an additional 30 seconds.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, basil, tomato paste, sugar, salt, and pepper, to taste. Stir to combine and simmer uncovered over low heat for 20-30 minutes. The longer the sauce simmers, the more flavorful it will be.
- Serve with pasta, on sandwiches, or pizza, and enjoy!
Yum yum yum yum. I'm throwing this on pizza bagels. Don't judge me. Pizza bagels are still one of my favorite foods.
There is really nothing better than some spaghetti and tomato sauce. I have some Jersey tomatoes growing in my yard waiting for this!
Sounds like a classic pasta night is in my near future!
I always add extra basil to everything that calls for basil ;)
