German league leaders Bayern Munich will head into their Champions League Quarterfinal 1st leg missing French midfielder Franck Ribery who is suffering from an ankle injury. The German title favourites are also missing midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger due to the flu in addition to Javi Martinez, winger Arjen Robben, and defenders David Alba and Medhi Benatia. Porto on opposite are fully fit to play bar their star striker, Jackson Martinez, who is currently on 26 goals this season for Porto across all competitions.
Bayern come into the game 10 points atop the Bundesliga and on an 11 game unbeaten streak across all competitions. They are also looking for another treble, last completed in 2013 when they won the league, German Cup whom they now face Dortmund in the semi-finals for, and Champions League.
Porto have yet to lose a game this Champions League campaign and will match the feat they accomplished in 2004 if they reach the semi-finals unbeaten. They won the Champions League that year under the guidance of up-and-coming manager Jose Mourinho.
Prediction: The loss of Ribery and Robben is tough for Bayern, but I don’t see Porto running them out of the park necessarily.
