I am already stoked on Empire, but then I found out that Baz Luhrmann is taking a crack at a hip hop series?! Sounds a little bit like a dream come true...
Director Baz Luhrmann’s first TV show will be a musical drama set in 1970s New York City called The Get Down and it is going to be exclusively on Netflix.
It will premiere in 2016, and highlight the birth of hip hop in the Bronx!
"The Get Down is a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco — as told through the lives and music of the South Bronx kids who changed the city and the world … forever."
Herizen F. Guardiola was just announced as the leading lady and will play "Mylene Cruz, a shining, tenacious girl with a voice from God who dreams of disco stardom from the confines of her family's fiercely religious church walls."
The series will also star Dope breakout Shameik Moore, Paper Towns' Justice Smith, The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete's Skylan Brooks and newcomerTremaine Brown Jr.

I can't wait too see this. Seems like the pulled the main star from the movie "DOPE" also which is awesome. Netflix has done a great job with their series over the past two years.
