Whether or not your produce are organic it's important to give them a good scrub. Non-organic fruits and veggies may be covered with pesticides and you want to do your best to rinse those off. Many grocery especially organic market sell produce cleansers but if you can't your hands in one of those bottles here are 3 simple ways to clean your produce.
Before you do anything to your produce, sprinkle a little baking soda and gently scrub them with a bristled brush. Rinse thoroughly afterwards.
I'm sure you're not surprised by the one. Vinegar proves to be another handy household staple. Fill your sink with cold water and add 1 cup of distilled white vinegar. Let your produce soak for 10 minutes before rinsing it thoroughly.
Salt and Lemon Juice
Again, fill your sink or a big salad spinner with cold water. Then add 4 tablespoons of salt and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to the water. Let the produce soak for 5-10 minutes and rinse thoroughly. Note: leafy greens should not go over 2-3 minutes.
How to store veggies?
If you're not using your veggies immediately lay a few sheets of paper towel in a container and place the produce on top. This will help absorb any moisture and keep it fresh longer.
